CAIN, Ruth Elaine (nee Hoddinott)

November 30, 1943 – January 24, 2012

Ruth Cain, beloved wife of Marty Cain of Calgary, passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at the age of 68 years.

Ruth was born in Newcastle, New Brunswick on November 30, 1943 to Donald and Jean Hoddinott. Ruth and Marty met in high school in 1960. They became best friends and enjoyed a wonderful life together for over 50 years. Ruth will be remembered for her humour, her forthrightness and her character. Ruth is survived by her husband, Marty Cain, and sons Bruce and Christopher Cain all of Calgary and daughter Kimberley Cain of Alachua, Florida, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and also a brother Douglas Hoddinott of Nepean Ontario.

A Celebration of Ruth’s Life for family and friends will be planned for a later date. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Ruth Cain, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Telephone: (403)243-8200.

  1. Ruth will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor. I only knew her at the bridge table, but I will certainly miss her wonderful smile and contagious laughter.

We’ll think of all the good times and laughter we had with Ruth in Jakarta drinking poolside, in Jakarta eating her delicious homemade soup, in Calgary drinking the homemade “scotch” and any other occassion where we had the pleasure of her company.
