Byers, Campbell Ellis (Cam)

Campbell Ellis (Cam) Byers passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 1, 2008 at his home at the Beverly Centre after an extended period of decline in his health and capabilities.

Cam was born in Edberg, AB on May 13, 1922. When Cam was a young man, he joined the Navy and was in action in World War II in both the Atlantic and Pacific campaigns. Following his return to civilian life, he lived in Sylvan Lake and Red Deer and engaged in a thirty-five year career with the Government of Alberta.

In his retirement years, Cam married Barbara and they enjoyed an active twenty year relationship before her death in 2002. Active involvement in Eastern Star, the Masons, Southwest Seniors, their church, travel, hiking and camping activities with friends and numerous other social gatherings provided them with fulfilling lives. Cam suffered from ill health subsequent to Barbara’s death but continued to be active and involved in social outings, dancing and singing in the choir at the Beverly Centre, where he is remembered as friendly and “always on the go” by members of this community.

Cam is survived by two stepdaughters, Rosemary (Bob) Nogue of Calgary and Heather (John) Sinclair of Nanaimo, B.C.; as well as six grandchildren, Sean (Suzie) Sinclair of Phoenix, AZ, Iain (Sharon) Sinclair of Richmond, Alison (Ben) Mayan of Richmond, B.C., Ryan (Malinda) Nogue of Calgary, Brendan Nogue of Calgary, Colin Nogue of Vancouver, B.C.; and seven great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Madison Sinclair of Phoenix, AZ, James and Ewan Sinclair of Richmond, Joshua and Luke Mayan of Richmond, and Holden Nogue of Calgary. In addition, Cam is survived by five nieces, Joan (Reg) Jones, Marilyn (Joe) White, Donna (Iaa) Waite, Susan (Syd) Nichols, Mary (Gordon) Dolling, and a special grandnephew, Clifford (Beata) Campbell and their children, Danielle and Matthew.

Cam was predeceased by his loving wife, Barbara, as well as his father and mother, Sidney and Grace Byers and two sisters, Lillian (Cliff) Duffield and Eveline (Alec) Dingwall.
