  5. Randy Connolly and family :

Richard was always a real inspiration to me. The way he lived his life was to me absolutely ideal. First and foremost, he devoted himself to his family. Nothing made him happier than to recount the accomplishments of Erin and Fiona. When I did run in to him, it was invariably at some function for his children. But Richard was much more than just a loving father. I first met Richard when I coached Fiona’s soccer team. Whenever a volunteer was needed, Richard was always the first to do so. He did it gladly and usually without anyone even asking for a volunteer. That was why Richard was such a tremendous man. He was always concerned about other people’s welfare. He was a real pillar of the community, of any school his children were in, and indeed, of anything he was involved with. Susan, Erin, and Fiona, I am so sorry for your loss. Richard was an extraordinary individual who enriched everyone he came in contact with and I hope that the love and respect he was held in by so many people can help assuage your grief at his absence.

Richards sudden passing was a shock at such an age close to mine. It makes us realize how precious we must treat the moment we live in and not to let problems of the past overwhelm. Looking forward to spring and more of our long walks through the park.

  25. Dear Susan, Erin and Fiona,

I have watched soccer games sitting beside you and Richard – and saw enough to realise that he was an extraordinary man….the care and attentiveness in guiding sometimes Margaret, and often John, to their seats, the unrestrained joy and pride when Fiona (as she often did) scored a goal. We were all witness to these wonderful family moments.

When we heard the news, there was a sense of disbelief and then a deep sadness – a sadness that is shared by all those who knew Richard. Susan, Erin and Fiona, we mourn your loss and hope that you find comfort in the community that surrounds you.
