August 12, 1948 – April 8, 2010
It is with much love and sorrow that we announce the passing of John F. Burns on Thursday, April 8, 2010 after a spirited fight with lung cancer.
John had a long career in Real Estate and in 1992 became owner operator of a Sutton Group Franchise. He was active in the CREB serving on the Board of directors and as president of the CREB in 1994. John was also a director of the Alberta Real Estate Association and was one of the founding directors of the Alberta Real Estate Council set up by the government of Alberta to regulate the Real Estate Industry in Alberta. John served in various volunteer positions including a member of the Calgary Regional Arts Council.
John loved the Saskatchewan Rough Riders, often saying you could take the boy away from the green and white but you can never take the green and white away from the boy.
He made the annual trek back to Regina for the Labour Day Classic and attended numerous Grey Cups.
John loved to travel and experience different cultures and meet people in their local settings. He travelled throughout Canada and the United States; as well as to Brazil, Peru, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Cuba, Eastern and Western Europe, Thailand, and Singapore.
John is survived by his wife and best friend Jackie; son Ryan (Thanh); granddaughter Lisa; two sisters, Shirley (Tom) Mulligan and Maureen McVeigh; one brother Pat (Val) Burns; sisters-in-law, Carol Burns and Paulette How; and brother-in-law Ralph Sly; and over thirty nieces and nephews.
