Eileen Marguerite Burkinshaw (nee Proudfoot) passed away suddenly on Saturday, March 30, 2013.
Eileen was born on the family farm near Chinook, Alberta on July 15, 1921, the middle child of five to Lorne and Hilda Proudfoot. After attending Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills, Alberta, Eileen completed her nursing education at the Calgary General Hospital in 1945. Later that year she married Orville Burkinshaw, and together they raised their nine children. She was predeceased by her husband, Orville, in 2006, her daughter Darlene Orriss in 2004, and her grand-daughter, Marlene Bradish in 2004.
Eileen will be greatly missed by her family, Jim Burkinshaw, Bob Burkinshaw, Kathleen Burkinshaw, Gail and Neil McPherson, Verleen Burkinshaw and Des Prunty, Don and Dalyce Burkinshaw, Cheryl and Doug Boys, Jerry Burkinshaw and Crystal Power, dear friend Betty Kirk, and her son-in-law Kevin Orriss.
Eileen was a deeply loved Grandmother to all her twenty three grandchildren, twenty eight great grandchildren and their families. She delighted in her great-grandchildren, always remembering birthdays and was involved in their lives.
In later years she loved to read, reminisce, tell stories and go for lunch!!!! Grandma had a diversity of interests from Brazilian Ju-jit-su, baseball, basketball, hockey, music, drama, and anything else her grandchildren were involved in. Her gentle and loving spirit and special touch with children was always extremely evident.
Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McInnis & Holloway “Park Memorial Chapel” (5008 Elbow Drive SW) on Tuesday, April 2, 2013, from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
A Memorial Service will be held at First Alliance Church (12345 – 40th Street S.E.) on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
