  3. Kylie Cassinat :

Mr. Burgel taught me how to touch-type in computer class when I was in grade 7 at F.E.O. He told our class that learning how to touch type would be one of the most useful skills we could learn. Being only 12 at the time (in 1996) I didn’t believe it. I’m not sure my family even had a computer at home at that time…and if we did, I never used it. Little did I know at the time how right Mr. Burgel was! Touch-typing is one of the most useful skills I possess. I always remember it was Mr. Burgel who emphasized this skill and made me learn it. He was a good computer teacher. He also liked Mac computers. I didn’t like Macs at the time and struggled to navigate on them since PC’s were more popular at the time. Now I love Macs. He could definitely see further into the future than I could.

  4. Although I only met Mr. Burgel once his kindness and good humour was seen many times in his daughter, Sarah, who is a wonderful example of what great role model he was. He will live on in the memories of his children. My heart goes out to the Burgel family and my thoughts and prayers go out to each and every one of you.

‘and He shall wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there shall no longer be any death; there shall no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.” Revelation 21:4

Our condolences to daughter, Sarah, the rest of the family on Peter’s passing. Until recently we were neighbours of Peter and enjoyed many enjoyable conversations ‘over the fence’ , watching our kids grow up and being supportive neighbours for each other. We are out of the country at the moment and will not be be back for his service on the 15th however we will pause and remember his kind spirit and career dedication as a teacher.

  6. I am truly sorry to hear of Peter’s passing. There are many memories that come to life as I think about the years spent working and associating with Peter at F.E.O. He was a good friend and colleague and will be sorely missed. We had some good times unwinding at Bugaboo’s, after some long days at school. Sarah, to you as his daughter and former student of mine, your husband and Sean, I think of you and offer you my sincere condolences. May you find comfort in the good, precious memories you have of your dad.

  8. Dr. David Reynolds :

Condolences to Peter’s family. Peter and I go back to Bowness High School days when we chummed around and had a few beers. I remember celebrating my 21st at this parent’s house in Montgomery many years ago. We kept in touch over the years. He was my two children’s computer teacher at FEO. It seems like only yesterday that he and I had a beer together at Jameson’s Pub. He was one of a kind and will be missed by his children, family members, his teaching colleagues and his many friends. Cheers, Peter!
