Margaret beloved wife of the late Roy Brown of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, July 7, 2017 at the age of 91 years.

Margaret Dodds was born on October 9, 1925 on the family homestead in Tofield, Alberta. She and her parents and two siblings enjoyed an active life on the farm. As a young woman Margaret moved to Edmonton to further develop her singing and piano skills, a lifelong passion. This is where she met her future husband Roy Brown. After they were married, many moves occurred around Alberta and to Regina until they settled in Calgary in 1962. Two children, Peggy and Bob, were born during this time.

She moved to Didsbury in 2014 and into Garrison Manor in Calgary a year ago to be closer to her family.

Margaret was actively involved in singing and music throughout her life and loved playing her antique piano. She especially enjoyed time spent with family and friends and welcomed many into her heart and home with open arms. She was an excellent homemaker, cook and baker.

For many years, at Grace Presbyterian Church in Calgary she was a soloist and sang in the choir for many years, directed the youth hand bell choir and was active in several women’s church groups. In more recent years she sang solos and lead bible readings at The Congregational Church in Cremona.

Margaret is survived by her daughter, Peggy (Patrick Hartnett); son, Bob Brown; grandchildren, Tyler Hartnett (Christianne) and Tanner Hartnett (Betsy); favourite cousin, Bill Garber (Cindy) from Idaho; special nieces and nephews and their families, Rosemary (Joe Yurkowski), Charles Hallett (Sheila), Margaret (Hank Schroeder), Ken Dodds (Eva), Millie Dodds, Dale Binder and Lois (Harvey Loen); special friends in Calgary, Cremona and Didsbury, AB and relatives and friends from around the world.

  3. Margaret has been my favorite cousin, always. My Mother (Margaret Dodds Garber) and I took the long train ride from Idaho up through the Canadian Rockies to visit her family several times. Margaret was almost two years older, but still took the time to be my tormentor, sidekick, and friend. Although miles and time separated us, we always remained close. Visits were always too short, but filled with laughing memories and warmth. The knowledge of her passing saddens me. Margaret remains a strong force in my memories and my heart.
