BROWN – George

August 30, 1929 – March 30, 2010

It is with deep sadness we announce the death of George Brown on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at the age of 80 years.

George was born in Edmonton, AB to Alan and Anna Brown. He spent his entire career working in the gas processing industry until his retirement in 1986. George took many wonderful trips with his wife and family. He enjoyed golfing with his dear friends at Carstairs and was an active member at the Crowfoot YMCA, where he formed many special friendships. He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humour, quick wit and caring nature. George had a unique ability to make each and every person he met feel special.

He will be forever missed by his family, his daughters Shannon Brown (Murray Quibell) and Colleen Lyster (Tim), and grandchildren Shayna and Daniel Quibell and Devin and Jason Lyster, all of whom meant the world to him. George is also survived by his sister Doreen Dewald (Doug) of Stony Plain, AB, brother Bruce Brown of Morinville, AB, and many relatives in Canada and Ireland. We take great comfort in knowing he is reunited with his wife Mary, who predeceased him in 2002. He was also predeceased by his sister Margaret McCartney in 2005.

The family appreciates the outpouring of love and support from George’s many dear friends, especially Hazel Belsher. We are also grateful to Aziz and the staff of Unit 61 at the Foothills Medical Centre.

A celebration of George’s life will be announced shortly. Please forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Agapé Hospice, 1302 – 8 Avenue N.W., Calgary, AB, T2N 1B8 Telephone: (403) 282-6588.

In living memory of George Brown, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Telephone: (403) 243-8200.

  2. Paula and Laurie Montgomery :

    Dear Colleen and Shannon:

Laurie and I are shocked and deeply saddened to hear of the passing of George. Through Kenneth, we know what a wonderful family you all are – and through your Dad’s kindness, Laurie had a place to go while having tests at the hospital in Calgary. George could not have been more hospitable, kind and just doing whatever he could, to assist Laurie throughout that very difficult week. We have always been so appreciative of the caring shown to Laurie at that time.

Kenneth always mentions your names Colleen and Shannon; and of course Rie and Shino share your names and their middle names so you are both deeply connected to us.

Our deepest sympathies to you all and we shall be thinking of you, through this very difficult and sad time.

With kindest regards, Paula and Laurie (Kenneth’s parents)

I am so sorry for your loss. I loved your Dad’s wit and compassion, both of which surfaced regularly and always in the most timely fashion. Please accept my sincere condolences and extend them Tim, Murray, all the kids, and George’s friends and family. Ken

  4. darlene abbott :

Dear Shannon and Colleen – I was so sorry to hear about your dad’s passing. I have lost contact with him in the past few years so did not realize that he had been ill. The last time I saw him was at my husband’s funeral. As you said, he was always so friendly and genuine when he met others and both Charlie and I considered him to be a fine person and a man to be respected. I know he will be missed by many especially his family of which he loved so much. I will be away April 12 – 26 visiting Darrell and Monica in the UK so may miss the memorial service. Please know you are both in my thoughts and prayers.

  6. Charlie And Lea Johnson :

    Dear Shannon and Colleen,
We wish to express our sympathy to you on your father’s passing. We watched him perform as a father and grandfather, coaching you girls in softball, pulling the grand-children in the wagon, among other activities over the many years he lived at Vincent Place. He was a good man, a kind man and leaves a hole in the community. Charlie and Lea Johnson
