November 18, 1926 – January 23, 2011
Bob died peacefully following a lengthy illness which he faced with the courage, grace, optimism and humor that were the hallmarks of his approach to life.
Bob was born and raised in Winnipeg Manitoba, attending Gordon Bell High School where he was fondly known as Captain Bob for his leadership and prowess on the football field, basketball court and hockey rink. Bob graduated from the first Mechanical Engineering class of University of Manitoba in 1949. He was a member of the Sigma Lambda Phi Fraternity establishing close and sustaining friendships which have endured to this day. Upon graduation Bob married his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth (Betty) Lindal in 1950. Shortly thereafter they moved to Alberta where Bob embarked on a very distinguished and successful engineering career which included positions with Alberta Oil and Gas Conservation Board and Petrofina Canada. The family moved many times during his early career to several locations including Stettler,Wetaskiwin, and Whitecourt while they were busy raising their four rambunctious boys Gordon, Warren, Paul and David. They finally settled in Calgary where their daughter Tannis was born. Bob was a loving father coaching sports and proudly supporting his children’s successes in life. A skilled carpenter, Bob built a cabin in Windermere BC which has been home to many precious memories for family and friends. He was a proud grandfather. Following Betty’s death, Bob married Margaret Edmond in 1994 and became a loving friend, mentor, and grandfather to her family.
Bob was an avid golfer and sport enthusiast. He loved music and was always whistling a tune. He exuded positivism and was a true gentleman. He remained passionate about his career and started his own successful oil and gas company, RH Brown Resources, now directed by his children. He and Marg were blessed with 17 years of marriage, friends and family.
