  1. Lee Wm. Gaudry :

In the 25 years I have had the honor of knowing Walt, 20 of them in his employ, I’ve never had a reason to say a bad word about him. More than just an employer, he served as a mentor to my career, offering only ever constructive criticism of my work, never derision. He and I travelled tens of thousands of miles together usually laughing all the way. He introduced me to the pleasure of raw oysters on the half shell in a little bar in Texas, betting me $20 I’d like them. I lost the bet and we spent the 20 on another dozen each. To this day I’m sure I’d never have tried them if not for him. He taught me to get cattles’ attention to the point people would demand my service above others just as they knew HIS photograph could earn them a million dollars. Walt, I am Proud to have been part of your team, and I will remember you fondly for life. Marie, Shannon, Allan, know that I stand beside you in your grief. Roxana, please ensure the children never forget what a great man their PaPa was. We are indeed fortunate to have shared the world with him and the world is fortunate for the legacy of hundreds of thousands of images that were captured by his lens.

  3. Linda & Daryl Kirton :

We will always remember Walt and his love of fishing on the Fraser River. He would call for his favorite salmon recipe and I often sent him some smoked salmon I had done. He never wanted to put us out but we loved his phone calls to see what we were up to, hoping our answer would be to spend the day on the river, and could he tag along.

We will never forget the time we hit a good run of pinks, he took them all, we wrote a note to inform anyone who would of stopped him we had given our catch to him too with our licence #’s. We made a trip to the Canadian tire store to get a cooler and ice and he was on his way back to Calgary with a load of fish. The smile and trill of a successful day with us. We will miss that.

We never knew when he might be around Abbotsford, but never turned down a chance for a day off to go fishing with Walt.

On another trip we hooked a big spring, Daryl and I jumped in the boat to run with it downstream. We just gave Walt a hauler and took off. Coming back about 45 minutes later he was the only one left on the bar, but told us he was not worried he knew we would be back. Did we get the big one…………. yes we did.

    He was a good friend.
We are so sorry for your loss.
    Sincerely
    Daryl & Linda

We are so sorry to learn of Walt’s passing and also that things did not work out for us to visit with him this past week. The past forty plus years that we have known Walter leaves us with many great memories, not the least of which were his talents with a camera. A great guy whose talent leaves a legacy that will allow us to remember him forever. Our thoughts will be with you and your family on Monday.

  7. Jerry Burdenie :

Dear Marie, I was deeply saddened to read of Walt’s passing. I remember fondly the many days I spent at the Stampede in the late ’70s and early ’80s watching Walt as he patiently waited for the right moment to “shoot” a grand champion at the Calgary Bull Sale or Round-Up. It was truly a joy working with him and you back then. I will always remember Walt’s dry sense of humor and unflappable demeanor. I’m sure he felt on many occasions that the four-legged animals were a lot smarter than the two-legged ones!!!!

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this solemn time.

    God bless you.

    Sincerely,
    Jerry Burdenie

  9. Bruce Holmquist - Canadian Simmental Association :

Our sincere condolences to the entire Browarny family.

Walt was a tireless promoter of the Candian beef cattle seed-stock industry and Simmental in particular. Through his talents he promoted and also recorded the evolution of the genetics side of the beef industry; however more importantly Walt gave a face to the people involved.

You and your countless stories will be missed Walt but your pictures are a legacy that will remain forever.

  16. F. Rodney James :

    Marie and Family,
Mernie and I are at our cottage in Ontario and just got word of Walt’s death. Please accept the condolences of the Rodney James family. I wonder now, “Why did we get so busy over the years that we didn’t keep in touch.”
I think back to the early years of Charolais in Canada and more specifically the early years of the Canadian Charolais Banner. Marie, you and Walt were an extremely important part of the success of the Banner, other breed magazines, and yes, the introduction of all of the European breeds to North America.
The integrity and professionalism of Walt with his excellent photography brought to the purebred cattle industry a whole new dimension to the promotion of the breeds, breeders, AI studs, etc.
Walt was the best in the world at his chosen profession. I know how proud the Browarny family is of husband, father and grand father Walt. And rightly so!!
    Rest in Peace Walt.

    Marie & Family:

What a shock to see Walt’s handsome face staring at us from the obituary page in the Herald. It has been many years since we got to know him through our involvement in the exotic cattle industry, but we always admired his professionalism and excellent photography skills. There was no one better at making livestock look good!

Sincere condolences to the entire family.
