BRIGGS, Janette “Irene”

December 9, 1948 – Whitewood, SK
October 29, 2013 – Calgary, AB

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Irene Briggs beloved wife, mom, grandma, sister and aunt on October 29, 2013.

Irene’s love of life and her joy at family births, weddings, visits and reunions will be remembered by the many people who loved her. She enjoyed lengthy phone calls with family members and friends and treasured the time spent with her grandchildren.

She was a wonderful woman who warmed a room with her presence, always with a listening ear, a shoulder to lean on, wise advice, soothing words or gentle comforting touch. Irene was proud of her family and her passing has left a huge void in our hearts and those of her extended family and friends.

She will be dearly missed by her loving husband Dennis; sons Darcy (Janice) and Dallis (Jadine); daughter Deanne (Doug); grandsons Austin and Adrian; siblings, Jean, Iris, Larry and Darlene. She was predeceased by her parents George and Clara Zazalack; sister Joyce and brothers-in-law Richard, Herbert and Hubert.

A Celebration of Irene’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E. Calgary, AB) on Monday, November 4, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. 2. Dear Dennis, We’ve never met but I was the nurse from the Diabetes Program that you called when you needed a little help with Janette’s blood sugars. I’m so sorry for your loss. I never met Janette, but what a nice picture of her. She sounds like a beautiful person. I really admired the way you cared for her…right down to the details of managing her blood sugars.
    My deepest sympathy,
    Linda.

  15. Alex and Wayne Friesen :

Wayne and I loved Irene so much and having her as our neighbor all these years was a blessing and a gift. We always had a pact that neither of us could move away unless the other one moved too, that is how much it meant to have your mom and dad next door to us. The perfect neighbors and friends. Your mom was like an extra mom to me and Wayne and we had so many great dinners and laughs at their home. She was always there for us no matter what, and what we loved so much about her was her quiet graceful strength. Never a loud person, but someone you felt instantly warmed too and someone you could count on no matter what. A quiet sense of humor and a heart of gold. We feel like we lost a very special and important piece of our life and it will never be the same. We thank our lucky stars that your mom was our neighbor and friend for all those years and we were not ready to say goodbye to her. We feel numb at the thought of loosing her and we know you are all heartbroken. We were all so very blessed to have her in our lives and will always be in our hearts. Love and Peace to you all to help you through this very sad time – Wayne and Alex

Dennis, I am so sorry to hear of Irene’s passing. Remembering the times we spent together when mom was sick, Irene was always great company. It also makes me think about the great care and love your dad provided for my mom. I understand your situation had some similarities. Irene was fortunate to have you. At such a sad time, few words can express the sympathy we feel. Please know that my thoughts are with you and memories of Irene will long be remembered. Take care of yourself and your family. Loretta

  19. Lynn & Terry Neovard :

We are so sorry for your loss. Irene was a wonderful person and friend. We worked together at the Agrium, Clavet Terminal as well as having interaction when she was working at the Watson Terminal. She was always very thorough and dedicated to doing a super job. I can recall several conversations regarding the planning of your wedding Deanna and remember getting a phone, I believe, from Grande Prairie, looking for some help with rolled fondant for I think a niece’s wedding. Lately, we seemed to keep in touch by e-mail and of course I think every e-mail contained updates and sometimes pictures, of the family and grandchildren; you were her pride and joy! Our thoughts and prayers are with you Dennis and the family. Take care of each other and recall the good memories – the ones Irene would want to be remembered for.
