It is with great sadness that we announce our beloved wife and mother Gwen Braunberger passed away on July 2nd, 2014.
She will forever be known for her bright, beautiful smile, her great sense of humour and positive nature. Gwen had countless friendships over the years through her love of sports including basketball, tennis, racquetball, running and golf. She had passion for playing bridge and enjoyed the camaraderie of both teammates and opponents, celebrating a loss as joyfully as a win. Gwen was adventurous and loved to travel with good friends enjoying trips to Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Argentina, England, Ireland, Scotland, Italy, France, and Spain. Gwen was particularly proud of her Norwegian heritage and carried on many traditions such as making krumkake at Christmas. She had a strong network of friends that spanned decades because of her kind nature, quick wit and ability to make people feel at ease. Gwen was a woman of grace, wisdom, compassion and love. She was the soul of every celebration and the heart of our family. She looked forward to and enjoyed the numerous celebrations held with immediate and extended family members throughout the years.
Gwen is survived by her husband of 48 years, Gerry Braunberger, her two daughters Dana Braunberger (Sean), and Candace Newman (Craig). She was tremendously proud of her five grandchildren, Kate, Ella, Jacob, John and Lucas. Gwen is survived by her brothers Ron Walters (Linda), Evan Walters (Dianne); her sister Vicky MacMillan (George); sister in laws Marion Pierce, Marjorie McNeill (Ron). She will be fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews.

“The excitement is not just to survive,” she once said, “but to thrive, and to thrive with some passion, some compassion, some humour and some style.” Enthusiasm, generosity, justice, discipline, warmth, comfort, kindness, wisdom, patience, love, joyful soul, fair, right, wise, underdog, competitor, Phenomenal woman, her spirit is too enormous to leave this earth with her passing. Her legacy lives in the hearts of all of us whom she has touched, and most of all in the bright eyes of her grandchildren.
A Celebration of Gwen’s Life will be held at Earl Grey Golf and Country Club (6540 – 20 Street S.W.
