  2. A message for Alain’s friends and Family

Alain requested that there be no funeral. Perhaps he didn’t anticipate the need of the many people who cared about him to say one last goodbye. He really wasn’t one to enjoy the center stage. He just wanted to live happily ever after. I’m so sorry he never got that chance.

Alain was a good and generous man. He was a loyal friend and when he loved, he loved with his entire being. He made many good friends over the years, and it doesn’t surprise me that he kept in touch with them, even when they moved away, or life got in the way of regular gatherings.

I met Alain through work at NOVA, and fell under the spell of his funny French Canadian charm and twinkling eyes. We were married in 1983, and for 7 years we had happy times and sad times, until life threw us some curve balls that the marriage couldn’t handle. None the less, we remained good friends, and he knew he could find a safe haven in my home when his heart needed healing.

For 30 years we bantered “back and forth”, or, as he liked to say, “forth and back”. We shared advice and heartbreaks, and when he came to me suspecting his pending diagnosis of cancer I knew that he needed me to provide strength, comfort and understanding one more time.

I know many of his friends didn’t get a chance to say goodbye. He didn’t speak of his pain or his suffering. To most people, including myself, it seemed that he was going to beat this horrible disease. So, some you didn’t know you wouldn’t get that last opportunity to be with him, or to say goodbye. He would understand though, and I know he wouldn’t want any of you to feel badly that you didn’t get to see him.

So, as per Alain’s request, there is no funeral or service planned. It would be so comforting though, if you would all make use of the “Chapel of the Bells” website to share your memories and say your goodbyes. I truly believe, if you hold his memory in your heart, he will always be with you.

  6. Alain was the cadet of the family, at a very young age he left home for work outside of our city.
When he would come visit he would not miss to visit all of the family including old friends. In the last 20 years he would not visit as much as we would of like too good things phone exist. I will always remember the great time, meals and card games we had together.
I love you my brother and new you loved me back. May you rest in peace.
With Love your baby sister. xoxo…
