Boyce, Gregory Orval

It is with profound sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of their husband, father and grandfather, Gregory Orval Boyce at his home in Calgary on Friday, January 16, 2009. Greg was born and raised in Makroff, MB. He developed his strong work ethic and sense of integrity working on the family farm. Greg was an accomplished curler in his youth, competing in the provincial high school championship. Upon completing his school, Greg took Civil Engineering at the Red RiverCommunity College in Winnipeg. After moving to Calgary in 1972 and obtaining employment with the Department of Highways, Greg married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Ilona Truffyn, on October 12, 1974. Together, they raised their three daughters, Brianna, Jennifer and Miranda. After working for a period of time with McNicol Construction, Greg and his brother Bryan formed Boyce Heating where Greg worked until his retirement. Greg enjoyed curling, golfing, and his annual hunting expeditions with his many friends and family. One of Greg’s major accomplishments was the building of a new home for his family in Woodbine, a feat he completed almost single-handedly. In later years he took these skills and designed the family’s beautiful acreage home. Greg treasured his family time and he and Ilona visited many wonderful places. He particularly loved his cabin at Tie Lake, BC where he could always be counted on to captain the family boat for whoever wanted a ski or tube ride. In winter, he was the Team Leader for the “Puttin Crew”, leading family and friends on their snowmobile rides through the mountain trails. Greg was a quiet, unassuming man who provided strong support to his wife and daughters and then to his three wonderful grandchildren. They will all love and miss him forever. Greg is survived by his beloved wife of thirty-four years Ilona; daughters, Brianna (Randy) Parkhill and their twins Zoe and Zander, Jennifer Boyce, and his youngest daughter Miranda (Jason) Goldau and their infant son Dominic. Greg will be sorely missed by his sisters, Bette (Ernie) Epp, Barb (Ken) Jerome, Brenda (Peter) Carriere; as well as his brothers, Bryan (Jan) and Randy (Elda) Boyce. His brothers and sisters-in-law, Verlyn and Theresa Ferguson, Bill and Charlene Truffyn, Monica and Bruce Shamray and their families, along with parents-in-law, Bill and Mary Truffyn, will cherish Greg’s memory. Greg will also be missed by a host of extended family and friends. We have all been blessed for having had Greg in our lives. Greg was predeceased by his parents Orval and Velma Boyce; and his sister-in-law Sandra Boyce. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Thursday, January 22, 2009 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Friday, January 23, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Evenstart Children’s Society, Box 73153 Woodbine Postal Outlet, Calgary, AB T2W 6E4. In living memory of Greg Boyce, a tree will be planted at FishCreekProvincialPark by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Fish Creek Chapel, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E. Telephone: (403) 256-9575.
