BOWIE, Daniel Paul “Dan”

BOWIE, Daniel Paul “Dan”

September 19, 1966 – Peace River, Alberta
December 25, 2014 – Calgary, Alberta

Daniel Paul “Dan” Bowie, 48, a native of Grimshaw, Alberta who had lived most of his life in Calgary, passed away peacefully at the Southwood Hospice in Calgary on Thursday, December 25th, 2014, after a valiant struggle with Huntington’s Disease. Dan was surrounded by friends and enveloped in love at the time of his passing.

Dan was born on 19 September 1966, son of Mary and Arnold Bowie. Before his illness, Dan was an accountant in the Oil and Gas industry for nearly 10 years. He made many friends during those years.

Dan was also a traveller and enjoyed spending time planning the many trips he took with his partner Jacob to beautiful parts of the world.

Dan was known for his over the top love of the holidays, especially Christmas. He delighted in the music, the giving of gifts and most of all the decorations. If it sparkled, twinkled, was brightly colored or lit up, it was for Dan.

Survivors include his partner of 26 years, Jacob Hendriks, his mother Mary Bowie, sisters Betty Ann (Larry) Schur and Donna (Larry) Reiber and brother Clare (Lorna) Bowie as well as his beloved nieces and nephews, Pamela, Alvin, Tim, Anthony, Wendy, Patrick, Ben, Jeff and Kelvin. He is predeceased by his father, Arnold Bowie, brothers Doug, Andy and Perry Bowie and nephew Johan Bowie.

A heartfelt Thank You to everyone at the Southwood Hospice for the kind and compassionate care Dan received over this past year. Your support and most importantly your friendship has meant the world to both Dan and Jacob.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Monday, December 29, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Condolence Messages

  1. To Jacob, and the family of Dan

I’m very sorry for your loss. Dan was a very special person whom I feel very fortunate and honoured to get to know. Dan taught me a lot with his positive outlook, fun personality and his outright stubbornness! He was the light of my day at Southwood Hospice and I will miss him. Along with Dan came Jacob; I loved watching Dan’s eyes light up when he saw Jacob and vice versa. Jacob I will truly miss you also.

Keep on racing in the ever after Dan…

  9. To Dan’s family,

I had the privilege of meeting both Dan and Jacob through a mutual friend; Sue B, many many years ago. It was always so nice to see two familiar faces every time Sue had a get together. I will most certainly miss that big smile of Dan’s. Jacob, I am so sorry for your loss. In reading his obituary, Christmas was such a special time for Dan. I’m glad he got to join the Heaven’s on such a special day.

    My sincere condolences.

  10. To Jacob and to Dan’s family:
My heartfelt condolences for this huge loss. I first came to know Dan’s family when I lived in Grimshaw between 1979 and 1983. I, too, am all too well acquainted with HD and know well your struggle and the courage that it took for Dan, Jacob and Dan’s family to thrive, in spite of it all! My apologies for the lateness of my note however, I only just learned of Dan’s death.

    Sincerely,
    Stephen
