Johannes Boerefyn, beloved husband of June of Okotoks, passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at the age of 65 years, due to complications from lung cancer.
Hans was born in Papekop, Netherlands, the second child of four born to Dirk Williem and Geertruida Wilhelmina Kuijf Boerefijn. He immigrated to Canada on April 16, 1975, landing in Regina, SK. Hans later moved to Airdire in 1983, establishing Airdrie Plumbing & Heating Ltd. His association with Martin McKee and McKee Home continued for over thirty years where his colleagues respected the high standards he set for himself and his company. Hans opted for early retirement in 1999, later moving to Okotoks but continued to work on various projects until his death.
Hans and June travelled extensively to Holland and various European countries, and last year became snowbirds with their purchase of a home in Phoenix, AZ.
Hans is survived by his loving wife June; step-daughter Laura-Marie of Okotoks; step-son Dean (Rebecca) of Las Vegas; grandsons Sean and Alex of Las Vegas; sister Truus (Tom) of The Netherlands; brother Kees (Ria) of Chilliwack, BC; sister Ineke (Koos) of The Netherlands; nieces and nephews Arjan (Jen), Gea (Huib), Nanda (Mark), Martin (Jamie), Edwin, Irma (Leon); and great-nieces and great-newphews Delaney, Tristen, Eva, Sarah, Flore, Brittney, Rianne, Ethan and Brayden. Hans was a very special “Opa” to Brittyn and Austin. He was predeceased by his father in 1995; and mother in 2006.
Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Friday, November 8, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Graveside Service will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Lacombe, AB on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
