Blondin, Don

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our wonderful and loving husband, father, brother and uncle Don on Wednesday, January 17, 2007.

Don faced his prognosis with a heart breaking practicality and humour that became our guide in caring for him. Our only consolation was that Don remained at home throughout his illness tended by those who love him. Don was born on November 22, 1951 to a military family and spent his youth with five brothers and sisters in various armed forces bases but considered Ottawa his home until he settled in Calgary with his adored wife Gae and daughter Jennifer. Never one to value possessions, Don’s most enjoyable moments were spent at home with his wife and two rambunctious puppies. There were no half measures for Don and he gave his all to every endeavour. He especially took pleasure in working on projects around the home, often bringing friends by to enjoy his beautiful garden. Don also had a keen interest in history and his family continues to be astounded at his precise knowledge of history and current events. An idealist, Don believed in fairness and justice and if those two concepts exist, he is now in a place worthy of his kind heart.

Don will be lovingly remembered by his wife Gae; daughter Jennifer; and siblings, Susan (Ron), Sandy (Andre), Alan (Diane), and Brian. He will also be greatly missed by his extended family in Regina and by his nieces and nephews, particularly Sheila who loves him like a father. We will hold in our hearts forever Don’s wit, energy and passion for life – he has left us with a rich tapestry of memories.

At Don’s request, there will be no funeral services. A private gathering will be held to celebrate Don’s memory and the contributions he made to all our lives. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Don Blondin, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek Chapel, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E. Telephone: (403) 256-9575.
