BLOCHERT, Kathleen Patricia O’Brien (nee Thomson)
Born – February 6, 1929 – Kingston, Jamaica
Died December 4, 2013 – Calgary, AB
Kathleen Patricia O’Brien Blochert, (nee Thomson), the keystone of our family, passed away on December 4, 2013, after a valiant fight with cancer. She will be missed forever by her family; husband, George Blochert, her daughters, Jennifer (Rex) Delay, Vivian (David) Ewart and Carol (Roy) Hudson as well as her grandchildren, whom she loved as dearly as they loved her: Ryan (Paula) and Christine Delay, Matthew, Alistair and Timothy Ewart and Stephanie, Alexander and Nicholas Hudson and her 4 month old great-grand daughter; Nell Scarlett Delay, who brought her great joy. She is also survived by her sister Geraldine (Tom) Cross of Vancouver and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. Predeceased by her parents William Patrick and Kathleen Thomson, brother Dermott and infant granddaughter Sara Delay.
Patricia grew up in Kingston, Jamaica where she attended Wolmer’s Girls School. In 1947 she met George, who was stationed in Jamaica with the British Army. It was love at first sight which lasted for more than 66 years. They immigrated to Canada in 1952. While raising their children she pursued further education; upgrading her high school, then attending the University of Calgary where she obtained her BA with Distinction and her Masters of Science. She worked as a psychologist in private practice and subsequently with the provincial government. She was a talented painter, amazing cook, voracious reader and never stopped learning. She was foremost an intensely devoted, compassionate and fiercely protective wife, mother and grandmother with an extraordinary capacity for love. The family thanks the caring staff at the Southwood Hospice and are extremely grateful to Dr. Elaine Bland for her outstanding care of Patricia.
