March 28, 1913 – June 22, 2012
Hazel Anna Black, one of God’s rare earth angels, passed away peacefully at her residence on Friday, June 22, 2012.
Born in Bruce, AB 99 years ago, Hazel lived in a number of communities in Saskatchewan and Alberta before settling in Calgary in 1945 with her husband and life companion Doug. Family was her most important priority, and she became our matriarchal beacon. Her kindness, thoughtfulness, generosity and eternal optimism will be remembered by her family and those who had the privilege of meeting her. Hazel had a significant and positive influence on the lives of many. The world would be a much better place if there were more people just like her.
Hazel is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Val Black; grandson Craig Black and his wife Jenn; granddaughter Tanya and her husband David Carmona; great-grandchildren, Lyse and Daniel Carmona and Hailey and Kaitlyn Black; nephew John English; niece Judy and her husband Jim Schwindt, and god-daughter Leslie White. She was predeceased by her husband Doug, sisters Inga Day and Alma English, brother Martin Pederson, nephew Dick English, and niece Bette Bailey.
A private graveside service will be held at Queen’s Park Cemetery at a later date. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
