BLACK – Richard Jarrod

March 3, 1968 – September 26, 2009

It is with much sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Rick on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at the age of 41 years.

Rick is survived by his loving wife Denise; sons Evann and Kade, and was anxiously awaiting the arrival of their third child.  Rick also leaves behind his parents, Howard and Shirley; his sister Lori and brother in-law Casey, all of Calgary; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and his in-laws, Bill and Linda Johnson of Kaslo, BC.

Rick was born in Calgary and was a graduate of SAIT with a diploma in Business Administration and accounting.  He then acquired his CGA and became a partner at the accounting firm of Lo Porter and Hétu.  Rick was a beautiful, supportive and gentle person; his zest for life was his driving force for the well balanced life he led.  He loved golf, hockey and all sports.  He also shared his love with his cats and dog Nyles. He will be sadly missed not only by his family, but his many friends and associates.

A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Thursday, October 1, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.  In lieu of flowers, tributes may be made to a trust fund that is in place for his greatest love, his children.  Please forward to Lo Porter Hétu (#601, 2535, 3rd Avenue SE) Calgary, AB T2A 7W5 Telephone: (403) 283 1088 Ext. 48.

  9. John S.D. Kong :

It is with utter surprise that I learned of my dear friend’s passing. He has left us to give and help as was his spirit and nature in another realm. I am extremely saddened as to his all too early departure from our midst. Rick was the epitome of a gentleman, a person whose concern for others was at all times exhibited by his conduct, and his words. He believed in striving for his wonderful wife Denise, and his beautiful children. He rightfully boasted of them all, at all times.

We spoke often of our children and he remarked always to me that his dream was that they would each grow up into persons who would make a positive difference to the world around them. We pray and shall believe that this will be surely imparted upon them.

For Denise, for Evann and Kade, and for Baby soon to be, we offer our prayers of comfort and peace. No words can explain the loss of our dear Rick. I have lost a dear dear friend. We will perhaps one day understand but until then, may we cherish his every blessing in our lives, be it family, or friends, or colleagues. May we always be reminded of his high character and his never questioned integrity in our lives as we move forward.

  13. Sheldon Walker :

Martin Egan and myself, long time friends of Rick’s cousin Joanne, only had one opportunity to meet Rick, his wife Denise and his parents, Shirley and Howard. We were all at a restaurant as guests of Joanne on one of her special occasions. We laughed, we chatted, got acquainted and had a wonderful time. It was so obvious that Rick was a kind and genuine, down to earth person and great to be around. How sad that he was taken so early from his family and friends! We hope you will all weather this hurt somehow and be at peace.

We were shocked to find out the passing of Rick. We know Rick through work, he was our Accountant. Over the years we have gotten to know Rick and he was a real person. I often talked to him about family life. He always, always talked about his kids….just loved being a Dad. Our 4 year old son was diagnosed with Leukemia a couple of years ago and Rick really helped us out with our business books and was very compassionate to our situation. We will not forget that. He will be missed by many people I am sure…just was that kind of person. We just don’t know why these things happen….it makes no sense. We will pray for help during your grief and hope you can find comfort from each other.

  22. Hi Auntie. I know this is a lot late, but I have this tab pinned on my computer. I was reading it during some free time after a math test and felt called to leave a message. I miss Uncle Rick. Everyone does, especially you. I miss the way we would just come over and he would be so welcoming a always right there. It was a nice feeling, and it’s still nice to remember. It makes me really sad to think about losing him, and every time I do, I start to cry. Thank you for being brave and for being strong and for always being there for me. It means so much!
