BILLINGSLEY, Maxine (nee Atkins)

January 21, 2014 – Calgary, AB

Maxine Billingsley (nee Atkins) of Cardston, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at the age of 89 years.

Maxine loved living in Cardston with her big family of six girls, two boys and two cousins. She loved swimming, diving, singing, dancing, and playing basketball and bowling as a youth and adult. She married Bruce Billingsley in 1943 and they raised four children. They worked hard farming and “feeding the men” as she called it. They traveled to the States in the winters to work and later play in Surprise, AZ. She spent many summers in Montana at Lake Blaine with kids and grandkids. She loved and collected antiques and antique glass.

As her Alzheimer’s started her decline she remained very sweet and kind and very appreciative of anyone who cared for her and always thanked them. She was loved by all.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Bruce; two sons Rick and Russ; and two grandsons McKay and Jesse Wolff.

    My sincere sympathy to all of the families. We shared a lot of fun times with your Mom and Grandma at Family Re-unions that were held out at Aetna. As a cousin to your Mom, Junior (Owen Richards), my husband and our family travelled annually out to the Picnics to enjoy each others company and catch up on all of the happenings, enjoy the food and of course the bargain sale put on by everybody. What good memories. I know all of the good memories that will continue in your lives will help you at this sad time of your lives. Please know that athough I won’t be attending the service for your Mom, that you will be in my thoughts.

  3. To The Billingsley and extended families;
    I was saddened to hear of Maxine’s passing and thinking of all the time that has passed since I have seen her. I then felt warm and happy knowing that she is at rest and joined with her family who have gone before her. I had so many happy memories of your mom and dad…..playing cards, dancing…..and a cocktail every now and again. Such fun we had at their home or ours or at Blaine Lake in their Silver Stream or on their boat…..or at any other place where we would meet. It has been quite a journey for Maxine and I am so very glad I got to be a part of her past…I will always remember her with fond memories and those memories will always make me smile.
    I wish all her family many happy and warm memories of Maxine
    Always in Friendship, Sincerely, Debbie
