November 25, 1939 – November 13, 2014
Deborah Big Plume was called home by our Creator on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at the age of 74 years.
Deborah was a dear mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many people. She inspired all who came in touch with her. Deborah had a great sense of humor, enjoyed sharing laughs with family and friends, welcoming everyone into her home.
Deborah was raised on Tsuu T’ina (Sarcee). She attended the Sarcee Day School and later transferred to St. Mary’s Catholic School in the City of Calgary. Deborah went further and got her NNADAP Certificate and worked many years as an addiction counsellor at the Sarcee Spirit Healing Lodge until retirement. Her health restricted her to many things that she would have wanted but she still carried on her maternal duties as a mom, grandmother, sister and auntie which kept her life busy. As a young girl, Deborah enjoyed participating in the All Girls Rodeo Association. She also participated in other sports, including broomball and baseball. In her later life she enjoyed watching Flames games. She had many arguments defending the Calgary Flames against rivals such as Steven Owl who was a Toronto Maple Leafs fan. They never missed a game. Regardless of her restricted life, it did not stop her from living life to the fullest.
Deborah is survived by her daughter Deanne Crane (Johnny Kaquitts); four grandchildren Keenan (Raven), Brendal (Joshlynn), Cathaleen, Denae, and great-granddaughter Cree; daughter Pearl Big Plume; grandchildren Kayla, Brittany (Jordan), Jethro (Shelby); great-grandchildren Tayson, Amaya, Joelan, sons Peter (Lisa) Manywounds and David (Ginger) One Spot, Marvin Big Plume, Larry Mistaken Chief; special nieces Paddy Big Plume, Lottie (Johnny) Manywounds, Karen Wells; special friends Taylor Plume and Wilfred Blood, sister Bertha Big Plume, sister-in-law Rachel Big Plume and members of the Labelle, Crane, Goodin, Firing Stone and Big Plume families.
