Frank Big Crow beloved husband of 58 years to Eileen, passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2013 at the age of 80 years.
Frank was a loving husband, Dad, Grandpa, brother, uncle and friend that was always willing to help. He was proud of his past 33 years of sobriety. Frank believed and lived his life in the traditional native way; he was a pipe holder, fluent speaker of the Tsuu T’ina language and was honoured to be a proud member of the Tsuu T’ina Nation. He was a chuckwagon outrider and wild horserace participate in the Calgary Stampede for many years. Frank worked as a farmer, took care of the Tsuu T’ina Buffalos, custodian at the health centre and sat on the board of directors for Tsuu T’ina / Stoney Corrections for 21 years.
Besides his loving wife Eileen, Frank is survived by his three children George, Viola and Keith Big Crow; his 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother Russell Big Crow (Mary); sisters Keitha and Eva Many Horses, Vanora Big Plume (Clifford); adopted sister April Rowan; adopted children Randy and Paul Whitney, Jerry Simon, Adele Rabbitt, and Carrie Dodginghorse. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Geraldine and Marsha Black and Yvonne Big Crow and numerous extended families from Tsuu T’ina, Siksika, Morley and the Blood Tribe.
Frank was predeceased by parents George and Hilda Big Crow; his daughters Sonia and Serena Big Crow; his grandchildren Eli, Buffy and Blaine; his brothers Clarence, Rodney and Hector; his sisters Edith and Mabel and adopted sisters Helen Meguinis and Beatrice Poucette; his nephews Tony, Chiefy, Clinton and William; and niece Loretta.
Wake Services will be held at the residence of the late Frank Big Crow (600 Bullhead Road, Tsuu T’ina Nation, AB) on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at 7:00 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church (3700 Anderson Road S.W.) on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow Tsuu T’ina Cemetery (Tsuu T’ina Nation, AB).
