BEYAERT, Robert Owen

BEYAERT, Robert Owen

February 14, 1940 – January 5, 2012

Following a major cardiac arrest on January 3, 2012, Bob, a Calgary resident, passed away peacefully on the CICU at Foothills Medical Centre, surrounded by his loving and caring family.

Bob was born and raised in Galesburg, Illinois, graduated from university with a degree in metallurgical engineering. He changed directions in the 90s to embark upon a very successful financial planning career. For many years he was the teacher of Successful Retirement Strategy courses sponsored by the Calgary School Board.

He was the cherished husband of Karen (Powell) and is survived by his older brother Bruce; sons, Dan (Kristina) and Greg; stepson Cameron Bird; and grandchildren, Willow and Erik Beyaert and Lexus Bird. Bob delighted in, above all, his grandchildren, his two dogs, playing bridge, watching basketball (all other lifeforms were out of his consciousness during March Madness), fishing, hiking, gardening, and listening to the blues. He will be remembered for his quirky sense of humour, his unwillingness to bend his principles and beliefs, and the immense store of knowledge amassed within the walls of his brain.

A Celebration of Bob’s life will be held at Knox United Church (506 – 4th Street S.W.) on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. The family is requesting that, in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Canadian Diabetes Association, #204, 2323 – 32nd Avenue N.E., Calgary, AB T2E 6Z3 Telephone: (403) 266-0620, ext. 112, www.diabetes.ca.

In living memory of Bob Beyaert, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park Cochrane by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Crowfoot Chapel, 82 CROWFOOT CIRCLE N.W. Telephone: (403) 241-0044.

  2. Vicky and Gary Lawrence on January 7th, 2012 2:29 pm

We believe Bob was an example of what he promoted in his financial planning-”to Enjoy your Golden Years.”
On inquiry about his Dad, Dan often told us of his latest trip, often taken on very short notice, to take advantage of good prices!
We liked and respected Bob and really enjoyed his witty remarks. It was a pleasure and a privilege to have known him and we were glad to have chosen him for our financial advisor.
We extend our condolences to Karen, Dan and all his family.
