With much love and fond memories we say goodbye to Jim, a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother-in-law and friend. Jim was born in Vancouver, British Columbia and was raised in Red Deer, Alberta. He recounted many stories of a happy childhood filled with friends, sports, and mischief. In 1940 at the age of 16, he joined the 78th Artillery Battery and was deployed to Europe. His first battle was at Juno Beach on D-Day and he saw action in France, Belgium, Germany, and Holland. In 2004 he was invited to be part of the Canadian government contingent to attend the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of D-Day in France. After the war, Jim settled in Calgary and began his career as a printer at The Albertan (now Calgary Sun) where he met his wife and best friend, Colleen. They spent many years happily married, and together raised five girls, making wonderful memories of family vacations and Christmases. Upon retirement, he was actively involved in the Legion and enjoyed golf, bridge, crib, and curling.
Jim was predeceased by his loving wife, Colleen and his parents, Mary Agnes and James Bevan.
Jim leaves behind a wealth of stories that his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren loved to hear, and a legacy of kindness and generosity that will not be forgotten. He will be deeply missed by his five daughters, Jane Meyer (Russell), Wendy Heywood (Rick), Lori King (Gary McElvie), Susan, and Maureen (Glen Kjearsgaard); his grandchildren Willow, Sarah, Dustin (Katrina), Alex, Katie (Sean Close), Dallas, Jay, Taylor and step-granddaughter Claire; and his great-grandchildren who brought him such joy, Caleb and Araya. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of the Carewest Colonel Belcher.
