February 4, 1931 – September 27, 2010
August Bernatchez of Calgary passed away on Monday, September 27, 2010 at the age of 79 years.
August was the eldest of thirteen children born to Omer and Alice Bernatchez and was raised on the family farm near Zenon Park, SK. After marrying Ada Jones of Clashmore SK, the couple moved from Saskatchewan to Alberta in the late 1950’s to raise a family in Calgary. A man of many talents, August enjoyed careers in a number of fields including accounting, transport trucking, and was involved in real estate for most of his working life. A skilled handyman, it seemed there were few things he couldn’t build or repair. He was a quiet man whose strong family values, respect for others and sense of duty were reflected in his words and actions. His playful spirit and generous nature will be missed.
August is survived by his loving children, Giselle (John) Feddema, Jacqueline (Stephen) Sheridan, David Bernatchez, and cherished granddaughter Rachel Feddema. He is also survived by his much loved sisters and brothers Rita (Charlie) Freeman, Rollande Jones, Angeline Jones, Cecile (George) Walker, Peter (Marguerite) Bernatchez, Robert Bernatchez, Theresa (Conrad) Aden and Denise Nowoselski. He was predeceased by twin infant siblings Henri and Henriette Bernatchez, his parents Omer and Alice Bernatchez, brothers John and Daniel Bernatchez, and brother in law Victor Nowoselski.
