  2. Laurie (Clauson) Towey :

    To Peter’s family,
I remember the week in 1996 (December!) that Peter met my Mom, because I met my husband-to-be that same week. Mom and I compared our “dating” stories at the beginning of our respective relationships, and over the years Peter became part of our family. Even though Mom and Peter spent every Christmas in Palm Springs, one particular Christmas they flew into Seattle to celebrate with us. We had them going to parties every day, and then had a big Christmas day on top of that. I am so grateful that Mom and Peter had so many (15) wonderful years together. Laurie (Clauson) Towey 10/9/13

  3. Peter was one of the most interesting, kindest, forgiving and loving persons I have ever met. I knew him for about 15 years, as I was married to Laurie, the daughter of his companion, Enid Clauson.
I was around Peter many times and he always had his mind working. I can’t help but think wonderful thoughts when I think of him. He was so talented in many areas, had a great sense of humor and was a good cook. He seemed to love to go for a drive. I could ask him directions on how to get around in the desert in the Palm Springs area and he would often very quickly come up with ways I did not know. He loved his 5:00 Scotch and snacks. His mind was sharp and his heart was pure. It was clear to me how much he loved his family and I am sure he will be fondly missed by all of us who knew and loved him.
I hope the family will recover from this loss knowing Peter lived a full life and was loved by many and is finally at home in the kingdom of his Lord.

On behalf of my Mom (Ev) & family, I would like to offer our condolences to the entire Benstead Family on the loss of a great guy…. I just wanted to say thank you Pete …. If it wasn’t for you , I really don’t think the Shamrocks Lacrosse legacy would have ever developed, as you made sure that three quarters of the team had summer jobs so that they could still play lacrosse in the evenings & on weekends… And with Pete & Pat’s guidance allot of great guys came out of those many years…
Our hearts & thoughts are with you all….

    Ev, Don, & Martin Cairns

  7. Barbara Halcom :

Dear Family of Peter: I have known Peter for the past 23 years. Peter and Jean were the first people I met attending St. Paul’s Church here in Palm Springs. Peter and I had a similar history. We had both emmigrated from England and settled in Canada many years ago. I went to Montreal and Peter settled in Calgary. He and Jean became friends of my late husband and I and we had many good times together. We visited them at their home in Calgary and saw firsthand the loving kindness they showed to their foster son.
Our dear sweet friend, Jean, passed away and Peter found himself alone. Eventually It seemed an appropriate time to introduce him to our friend, Enid Clauson, who had also lost her life’s partner. We were so happy to see two lovely, lively people enjoy their golden years together.
Peter was a good friend, kind, very intelligent, funny and just an all-round good guy. He loved his kids, grands and great-grands. You all have my most sincere sympathy and loving thoughts.
    Barbara Halcom, Palm Springs.
