Clara was born in Manitou, Manitoba on Feb. 27, 1917 and grew up on the farm in Saskatchewan. She attended Saskatoon Normal School and taught in several rural one-room schools. During her time at Pine Valley School near Prince Albert, she met John (Jack) Bennetts. They were married in 1942, and celebrated 60 years together on Sept. 16, 2002, shortly before Jack passed away. Writing poetry was one of her passions, especially poems describing the many travel adventures shared with Jack, as well as several cruises she undertook on her own after Jack’s passing. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, and playing Scrabble.

Condolence Messages

  1. (Rev.) Clint Mooney :

My thoughts and prayers are with all who are part of Clara’s family. She was a fine lady, and a stalwart and determined supporter of the church and of all that she believed in. Along with Jack, she was steadfast, resilient and strong, a person who brought to mind the pioneering virtues that have probably been essential in building this country. I am very glad to have known her.
    God be with you all.

  2. To each one of the Bennetts Family,
Our Clara has been a source of the history of the time era through which she lived, especially since 1948 when the family made Calgary their home and chose St. Matthew’s as their home church. Clara and Jack contributed so much to the growth and development of the Killarney/Glengarry district, to St. Matthew’s Church and then the Good Companion’s Senior’s Club. Clara’s influence will be sadly missed. My condolences to each of the family.
