December 26, 1930 – April 20, 2012
Chuck Benedict, beloved husband of Patricia Benedict of Calgary, passed away on Friday, April 20, 2012 at the age of 81 years.
Chuck was born in Lucky Lake, SK, one of three children, a sister Marian Wilson of Toronto and a brother Graham (Tillie) of Kelowna, both deceased. He studied Engineering at the University of Saskatoon and also trained as a Diagnostic Radiology Technician in the Saskatchewan Department of Public Health. Chuck also had a degree in Business Administration from Mount Royal College. In his working life, he was a medical representative with Pharmacia Canada, E.R. Squibb & Sons, and Nestle Canada Ltd., forming lifelong friendships with Patrick Randall, George Marks, Dave Hurst and many others. In later years he became Sales Manager for Calgary Glass.
Chuck loved people and found great purpose and camaraderie in being part of the Cosmopolitan Club of Calgary in helping to secure funding for noteworthy causes in the city. He was very proud of his Icelandic heritage and in 2010 was awarded an honourary Life Membership from the Leif Eiriksson Icelandic Club of Calgary for his dedication over the years. Chuck loved to golf, read, enjoy a good cigar and raise a glass of Irish whiskey now and then. His love of jazz was well known. Chuck was a proud man, proud of his family and his country. His political views were strong and unwavering and he had no patience with anyone who did not see it his way. He loved to walk his dog and spend time chatting with neighbours. He was “the good neighbour” on the block.
Chuck will be dearly missed by his beloved wife of thirty-eight years Patricia; his nieces and nephews, and especially by Bruce (Ruth) Benedict and family with whom he had a special bond. Chuck’s extended family includes his cousins Diane (Jim) Greer of Edmonton, Trevor (Rhoda) Lambert of Manitoba, Jack (Joan) Creasy of BC, Don (Debbie) Benedict of California and his Aunt Betty Kirkman of Montreal.
