John was born to Robert and Margaret Beattie on May 4, 1921 in Trewdale, SK. He later moved with his parents and siblings to Southern Alberta in 1940 where he farmed with his Dad until his passing and then continued farming with his mother until her passing. He then sold the family farm and retired into the Hamlet of Rolling Hills in 1978. In 1982 he met and married his wife Annie P Beattie (from BC) and his new adventure in life began for the next 21 years. After he married Annie they lived in many places – Rolling Hills, AB; Medicine Hat, AB; Cranbrook, BC; Falkland, BC; Stavely, AB; Delburne, AB; and finally Olds, AB until he was moved into the Linden Nursing Home.
John enjoyed travelling to different places, learning new things and spending time with family and friends. John was an avid curler in his younger days and enjoyed hockey and a rousing game of Cribbage and shuffleboard and hanging out at the seniors hall. He also enjoyed doing puzzles and search-word games. He was a quiet and simple man but had a wealth of love for his family and friends. He had a very close relationship with his daughter Penny and her children Jessica, Tyler and Nikkolas. John was a kind and loving man and respected by all that knew him. He will be sadly missed by all.
The family wishes to thank the many very special nurses assigned to John’s care and to all the nurses and doctors at the Olds Hospital Acute Care Ward, Olds, AB and the Linden Nursing Home, Linden, AB.
