It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Michael Bear Hat our father, grandfather, great- grandfather, brother, uncle and friend on Sunday, February 23, 2014 at the age of 63 years at the Siksika Nation.

He was born on January 17, 1951 at the Blackfoot Indian Hospital. Michael attended the Crowfoot Residential School, Bishop Grandin High School (Calgary) and Drumheller Composite. He also played hockey and baseball with the Siksika Rebels and enjoyed coaching the Jr Rebels baseball team. He had a passion for music by playing the guitar and singing. He was also a big fan of wrestling especially Stampede Wrestling, the WWF and the legendary Hart family. He was a proud grandfather and loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his children, Carrie(Jason),Mickey(Thomasina), Nicholas, Franklin(Courtney) and Aquina(Ira); daughter in law Tara; Siblings, Dorine(George), Elaine(Roy), Doug(Maryann) and Errol; twenty two grandchildren and two great grandsons. He is also survived by the extended families of Spring Chief, Duck Chief, Doore, Running Rabbit, Little Chief, Wolf Leg, Three Suns, Low Horn, Dyler, Stud Horse, Wolf Collar, Good Eagle and Cutter. The family apologizes if anyone was missed.

He is predeceased by his sons, Patrick Stevens and Justin; his parents, Gilbert and Violet; siblings, Lily Healy, Vivian Sitting Eagle, Noella Bear Hat, Buster Bear Hat, Joseph Bear Hat, Arnold Bear Hat, Daniel Bear Hat and Jody Bear Hat.

Wake Services will be held at the residence of Michael Bear Hat Siksika Nation on Friday February 28, 2014 at 6:00 p.m.

Funeral Service will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Catholic Church (Siksika Nation, AB) on Saturday March 1, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Paul Little Walker Cemetery (Siksika Nation, AB). Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

    So sad to hear the passing of my good friend and fellow musician from the late sixties. I got to know Mike during our teen years and spent time with him and his family in Siksika. Sorry I could not be there for the Wake and Funeral however, my condolences go out to his family. I’ll miss you buddy!
