Condolence Messages

  1. I am overcome by sadness at the news of Dawson’s passing. Dawson worked with my Mom, Marilyn, at Command, and my Mom always spoke both highly and fondly of Dawson. They got to be good friends in a short time and I will never forget my Mom’s kind words of him. I met Dawson a couple of times when I came into visit my Mom and he was a pleasure to meet. My condolences to Naomi, his future son or daughter, and his family. Truly senseless that someone so young has passed, you’ll be missed Dawson. Thank you for being a light in people’s lives. Rest in peace.

  10. Thank you everyone for your kind words and heartfelt thoughts. Dawson is deeply missed. In the short time he was my son-in-law we had the most wonderful relationship I could have wished for!
Naomi had to leave the home her and Dawson bought less than 5 months ago in Calgary and move across the country to be with family. Her and Baby Bayliss are being loved and supported fully. We are looking to our Heavenly Father for comfort and strength as Naomi makes new dreams for her life with Dawson’s and her baby to come.

Thanks enormously to the Royal Canadian Legion in Calgary for their amazing support in caring for all of the funeral arrangements for Dawson. Your love and care for Naomi and us during this sad time was above and beyond the call of duty and we will be forever grateful!!!

Thank you also to EVERYONE who sent funds to the Dawson Bayliss Memorial Fund. It will go to good use caring for their baby!!

On a slightly different note … these young soldiers fighting on behalf of Canada for peace in another land are paying a high price. I encourage everyone to read a book entitled “15 Days” by Christie Blatchford as she describes in great detail not only what these soldiers are battling every day but also the price their families pay as well. She writes of Dawson in her book. She was on the LAV when he was injured. Whether we agree with the war or not does not matter … they need our support!!!!!!!!!!

    Warmest regards,

    Laurie Shaw (Naomi’s mom)

  15. Dawson and I grew up together in a small, bleak, northern mining town called Kirkland Lake. He used to sit in his room in the attic listening to CBC radio and playing an acoustic guitar I sold to him. I picture this image often and smile to myself. He was one of the most important people in my life, without a doubt. He taught me to play bass, maintain my ethics at all costs, and to look out to the world instead of dwelling in my small town solitude. Like many, I miss him and his intelligent, albeit mischievous smile every single day.
