December 5, 2013 – Calgary, AB
Douglas “Doug” Malcolm Baxter of Calgary, passed away surrounded by family on Thursday, December 5, 2013 after a hard fought battle with cancer at the age of 83 years.
He will be missed greatly by friends, neighbors and family. Doug was enormously proud of his career with Royal Bank of Canada spanning forty years and taking him to five provinces starting in Noranda, Quebec and retiring in Calgary, Alberta in February 1988 as Regional Vice President for Commercial Markets. After retirement, Doug focused on volunteer work, most notably with the Canadian Mental Health Association where he received numerous awards and accolades for the important work he did over fifteen years. Doug also had a passion for golf and spent every free moment he had on the course. Over the last eight years, he dedicated his summers to assisting in the planning and building of a dream….“Ada’s Cabin in the Woods”…. a beautiful vacation log cabin on the Kootenay River that they both loved dearly.
Doug is survived by daughters Heather Baxter and Cheryl Baxter (Don McIntyre); sister Elaine Godfrey (Al Collver); great friend Shannon Lewis, son-in-law Chris Beck and loyal cat Bonnie. He was predeceased only five short months ago by his life partner and wife of fifty-three years, Ada Baxter.
As per Doug’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Donations in Doug’s honour can be made to the charity of your choice. We would like to express our thanks to Dr. Mark Grainger and cannot say enough about the compassionate and exceptional care provided by Calgary South Palliative Home Care, Dr. Jackson Wu at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre and the remarkable team at the Southwood Hospice – you have helped our family in this journey more that you will ever know.
