Jack Barton of Calgary passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 13, 2007 after a brief illness at the age of 88 years.
Jack was born in Taber, Alberta on May 2, 1918. He received his schooling in Taber and married his childhood sweetheart, Vera Redel on June 30, 1939. After his discharge from the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1945, he joined California Standard Oil Company (Chevron Resources) as a mechanic and welder and rose through their ranks to become a supervisor in the Land Department. During the course of their marriage Jack and Vera lived in Taber, Peace River, Edmonton and Calgary while raising their five children. Jack retired from Chevron in 1981 and he and Vera spent many years traveling, with Hawaii being a favourite destination. He enjoyed his affiliation with the Landman’s Association, Chevron, Texaco Retirees Association and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 264. Jack was an avid sportsman. In his youth he played hockey and baseball and loved to hunt and fish. In his middle years he loved curling and golfing. In his later years soccer became his sport of choice, enjoyed from the comfort of his “lazy-boy”
