Renee, I’m so sorry to hear about Larry. I’m truly lost for words.

Larry was one of the first people I met when I came to Canada.  This might sound strange but I felt like he was watching over me when it came to getting “things in order”. He was a calming and reassuring voice when I was thrown into a new country, helping me bring clarity to my finances.  I can’t put my finger on it but he felt like a friend to me. A very personable man too …

I’m so sorry for your loss.

We are very sorry to hear of Larry’s unexpected passing. He was a remarkable man; whom has left a remarkable mark on the lives of everyone he has preceded.

He saw the joy in life; took little for granted and lived life to its maximum enjoyment.

He was loved deeply by his family, and in-turn he deeply loved them; especially his wife, son, daughter-in-law and grandson.

Larry, we’d wish you a peaceful slumber, but that just wouldn’t be you. So, we wish you a rest that is filled with the most enjoyable and pleasurable moments of your life; with a little Vegas style flare.

To a long time and dear friend,

I’m sorry for falling out of touch the over the past years. Both our lives had taken different roads and we both understood that. I’ll never forget the times we got to hang together, the goofy long talks and the twisted humor we shared. I will truly miss you my friend, and will never forget you. I cherished our last time together a few years ago, Sarah and I got to meet Renee for the first time, and how we did so many times in the past shared a few games of crib, I finally won, and got paid. I still have the picture with you and I and that 50.00 bill.
    Love you always my friend.

  38. Doug Macdonald :

My Name is Doug Macdonald. I expect none of the Barrett Family will know me. Put simply, I and my consulting business are clients of Taxworks, Larry’s accounting firm.

While I seldom saw Larry in person, normally no more than once per year, he made a very large impression on me. His small business has built its success on serving small businesses like mine. More than any other person I have ever met in that capacity, Larry showed me that treating a client like they were his only client endeared me to him and his way of operating. He taught me a life lesson on how to relate to others in business relationships. For our infrequent face to face encounters, I came to consider Larry as a friend.

    I will miss him greatly.

In the words of Canadian Country and Folk singer, Ian Tyson, from his song “these friends of mine”:

By all these roads, my friend, we’ve travelled down,
I’m a better man for just the knowin’ of you.

    Farewell, Larry, and Godspeed.

  45. Jim and Pam (and Josh) Ross (CWTS Ltd) :

It was truly with shock and disbelief that we learned of Larry’s untimely passing from Glenda recently. There are just no words that can express my profound sadness. Larry was just such a great guy, and very conscientious. He was a black and white kind of a guy with little room for grey areas when it came to his accounting work. He always had his client’s best interests at heart. What impressed me most about Larry was that he took such a real sincere interest in his clients. A good part of our business meeting was always so much about family, friends, vacation, the next big adventure…and other fun distractions in life. Yes we eventually got down to business and when we did I usually had a hard time keeping up. Larry was always 10 steps ahead of me. Larry was the art-form of a classic gentleman and a true professional at his work who embodied that rare mix of professional business ethics with a bond of enduring friendship with all his clients. He will be sadly missed by us, and I am sure, by all who had the great privilege of knowing him.
Heartfelt condolences and prayers for healing of heart and soul going out to Renee and to all the family.
    Hats off.
    God Bless.
