Silvina Barcena of Calgary passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 11, 2004 to be with the Lord at the age of 90 years.
Silvina was born on February 17, 1914 in Laoac, Pangasinan, Philippines. After her retirement as a public school teacher she immigrated to Canada with her beloved husband Flaviano. She was predeceased by her husband Flaviano; son-in-law, Ed Quilloy; and a sister Maria Tabayoyong of the Philippines. She is survived by her son Ernie (Elsie), daughters Fely (Ben) Ramos; and Estela Quilloy of Calgary; son Ruben (Nena) of the Philippines; grandchildren Ernie Jr. (Gina), Bennie (Perlita), Russell (MaryAnn), Lina Marie (Jerry), Jonathan (Susan), Restie (Maria), Bennyfel (Shelly), Bal Rey, and Philip in Canada, Jonard (Cathy), Johnson (Bella), Louie (Cathy) and Cecil of the Philippines. She is also survived by twenty-one great grandchildren in Canada and five great-grandchildren in the Philippines. Silvina made friends very easily and made a significant impact on everyone she came in contact with including hundreds of children she taught and nurtured during her teaching career. As a wife of a minister, she was a tremendous inspiration to the congregation. Her legacy is her love and caring to anyone who needed it, even if she needed more. She loved her family unconditionally and her memory will be cherished and she will be missed and always loved.
