Frederick Ball of Millarville passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 30, 2009 in his 90th year.
Fred was born in Rochdale, Lancashire, England and moved to Ireland, later immigrating to Calgary in 1926. The family homesteaded in the Square Butte (Kew) area in 1934. Fred was active in the family ranch until his passing. While ranching was his passion, he was an active member of the community and in serving his fellow Albertans by his activities in the R.E.A., Calgary Regional Health Authority, Calgary Regional Planning, Development Appeal Boards, Councillor – Reeve of MD of Foothills and Square Butte Community Association.
Fred was predeceased by his parents Arthur and Annie; and siblings Theresa, Wyn, Annie, Walter, Gerard, and Art; granddaughter Jessica; and his loving wife of forty-seven years Una. He is survived by their children Maureen (Lionald) Sikorski, Dan (Michelle), David (Jody), Colleen (Ron) Nelson, Glenn (Pat), Keith (Ingrid), Elaine (Ted) Thompson, and Kate (Gavin) Waring; fifteen grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Fred is also survived by his wife of thirteen years Isabella; and her children – Gary (Joanne), Sharon, and daughter-in-law Liz (Bob predeceased) and their families.
