BAKER – Bradley Jason

May 24, 1954 – November 5, 2010

Brad Baker, beloved husband of Mary and loving father of Dylan, was tragically taken from us on Friday, November 5, 2010. Brad is also survived by his parents, Gilbert and Sheila, and his brother, Garney, and he will be sorely missed by his extended family: Shirley Davidson; Ann Davidson; May and Rick Perizzolo; and Charlie and Shauna Davidson. In addition, he will be lovingly remembered by his aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Born in Willows, California, Brad moved to Calgary with his family in 1968. He attended the University of Calgary, taught school with the Calgary Board of Education, and became a successful financial entrepreneur. Brad’s love of life and zest for adventure were evident in the many activities he pursued: sailing, skiing, scuba diving, hiking, backpacking, climbing, surfing, rodeo, photography, to name only a few. Above all else, his true passion was his family and the precious time they shared. He made time for everyone who needed him. Brad was a pillar of strength, a man of integrity and unprecedented morals and values, with the burning desire to ensure that everyone he touched received nothing but the very best of his essence. Although Brad’s work here is done, our lives are richer for his presence, and we will forever feel the void. He will dwell in the House of the Lord forever. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church (703 Heritage Drive S.W.) on Monday, November 15, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. Please forward condolences through In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Brad may be made to the Calgary Poppy Fund at #1, 4539 – 6th St. N.E. T2E 3Z6. In living memory of Brad, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park, Cochrane by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Crowfoot Chapel, 82 CROWFOOT CIRCLE N.W. Telephone: (403) 241-0044.

    Dear Mary and Dylan,

Our deepest sympathy on the sudden passing of Brad. To those of us that knew Brad,he will always be remembered fondly as a kind and considerate person; the kind of person we would have liked to have known even better.
It is indeed tragic that that Brad’s life was taken from us suddenly.

We hope that our Lord Jesus Christ will give you and Dylan strength to carry on with your lives until you meet with Brad again.

May God bless you Mary and Dylan.

  2. Kevin Morrison :

I just received the shocking news from the Calgary Yacht Club. I sailed with Brad in the Hobie Cat fleet many years ago then lost track of him until re rejoined the Club only a couple of years ago. My experience of Brad then and now was as is described in his obituary. A fine man indeed. My condolences to Mary, Dylan and the rest of the Baker family.

  3. Dear Mary,
We all share in your shock and grief. I shall remember Brad enjoying hikes and supporting our efforts with CMC where you were both so elegant. The thrill of riding a motorbike must have been exhilerating, and so, let us think of Brad with passion and joy.
Please accept my deepest sympathy in this grave moment and for years to come.
    With very fond memories,
    Elfi Gleusteen

    Dear Dylan,
I know you are a 14 year old boy, but you will have to be the “man of the family” now. That will give you pride and direction in your life.
I think of you sitting on your Dad’s shoulders coming back from Paradise Valley after such a long hike. You were already an impressive tyke. That was quite a few years ago but it is a beautiful picture where your Dad was giving you the support and the comfort that you needed then. He will continue to do so in your memories of the wonderful years you had with him.
I grieve with you but rejoice in the fact that we knew him.
The future is yours with all the weath of the past.

  4. Gary and Marie Gay :

    Dear Mary, Dylan and family,

Our heartfelt sympathy and love are with you all in this most difficult time. In a time like this, we realize that it is very hard to express the deepest feelings that can possibly be felt. We don’t know the words to make the sadness go away, but we do have faith – with all our heart – that comfort will surely come. And we don’t know the words to adequately celebrate a life that was so richly lived and that touched so many other lives.

We’ve learned that a loved one is never gone. Every special memory truly does live on. Everything you shared .. is still there and the bonds can only get stronger.

So sorry we cannot be there for you on Monday, but know that our prayers will be.

    Our Heartfelt Sympathy and Love,
    Gary and Marie Gay

    Mary and Dylan,
We arrived home from putting Good Idea to bed at the coast and was shocked when Ed L. happened upon us and told us the news a day after the service. We will all miss Brad and his love of life. I remember his joy in watching Dylan following in his footsteps and zeal for sailing, crabbing, dining and learning. Our thoughts are with you at this time and we’ll have to remember all those good times together on Good Idea.

  10. My condolences go to Brad’s family for their loss. I met Brad a few times, when he would come for lunch with his brother, Garney and sometimes with his parents as well, we spoke only briefly, however, I could see he was a gentle well spoken young man. My thoughts are with all of you at this time.
