BAILLOD, Mildred Grace (nee Gordon)

January 9, 1914 – June 7, 2012

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mildred Baillod on June 7, 2012 at the age of 98 years.

Mildred was a very special person, the most wonderful mother in the world, kind, compassionate and gentle who gave unconditional love, and always put everyone else first. There are few people on this earth who have the integrity, grace and heart that she had. She was an inspiration to us all. Mildred was born in Browning, SK in 1914. She graduated from Normal School in Regina in 1931-32 and taught school for twenty-nine years in Saskatchewan. Mildred was honored for her contribution to education in the Vanguard Museum dedicated to “Women of Influence”. She met Russ Baillod in Fife Lake, SK in 1938. They married in 1939 and had three children. Following Russ’s death in 1970 and her retirement in 1975, Mildred moved to Medicine Hat and then to Calgary. She loved playing the piano and doing needlepoint, reading mysteries, puzzles, playing Scrabble, her daily walks and exercises.

Mildred is survived by two daughters Marlene Imbsen (George) of CA and AK, and Patricia Holenski (Joe) of Vanguard, SK; her son James Baillod (Julia) of Sandpoint, ID; two sisters Frances Dowling (Doc) of Lethbridge, AB and Shirley McWalter of Calgary; four grandchildren, Deborah, Sherry, Laurie and Cindy, and a great granddaughter Alexis. Mildred was predeceased by her husband Russ Baillod, her brother Albert Gordon, and parents James and Catherine Gordon. She will be dearly missed by all, and will live in our hearts forever.

It was Mildred’s wish that she be cremated and placed with Russ in the Swift Current Cemetery. Condolences may be forwarded through

Condolence Messages

  1. Val Kolla (Froyman) :

I was saddened to learn of Mrs. Baillod’s passing. She was my Grade Two teacher in Vanguard. I remember her for many wonderful reasons: for being a great teacher, having great penmanship and her lovely perfume that even today I can smell if I close my eyes. She and I kept in touch by mail all these years. I will miss her wonderful, positive notes at Christmas. She was a great woman.

  2. Donna Harvey for Vera Colquhoun :

Dear Marlene: I read about your Mother in the Leader-Post and told Mom about her. We are so sorry for your loss. I have been keeping in touch with Mildred at Christmas for Mom for a few years now since Mom is almost blind. She has been in a nursing home since last September after having a fall and not able to look after herself properly anymore. She asks about your Mom now and then and I read her your Mother’s Christmas card when it arrived. Mom is 98 also – will be 99 in October. I think I met you when you and Mildred were here in Regina a few years ago and the four of us had supper together. I think that she and Mom graduated from Normal School together and kept in touch all these years! She was a lovely lady. Our thoughts are with you and the rest of your family. Sincerely, Donna Harvey for Vera Colquhoun

  3. Greg Heebner :

Mildred was a great friend of my mother Joan. Mildred and Joan spent many happy hours together both in Vanguard and in Calgary and perhaps they are together as friends once again. She was my teacher in my younger years and my friend in later years. I will miss her, a kind, generous, and principled woman.
