BAILLIE, David Gibb

February 24, 1925 – May 14, 2012

It is with heavy hearts we announce our beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away on Monday, May 14, 2012.

David was born on February 24, 1925 in Deantown, Edinburgh, Scotland. On March 1, 1926, with his mother and brother, they immigrated to Halifax, NS, and then travelled by train to Prince Rupert, B.C. where father awaited. They spent 23 years in Prince Rupert except for a two year term at UBC. He proudly joined the RCMP in October of 1948 and received an honourable discharge in October of 1953. Anxious to get into the vibrant oil and gas industry, he joined a small independent company in 1954. He was employed by L.M. Oil Company/Monsanto Oils Ltd., as land man on September 1, 1959, resigning in 1977 as Regional Manager for Canada. He continued his employment in the oil and gas industry as a land man for Windsor Resources Inc. and ultimately, retired as a consultant in 2003.

David was a member of the Calgary Petroleum Club since 1962, a member of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Land Men since 1959 and an avid upland bird and waterfowl hunter.

David is sadly missed by his beloved wife of 58 years, Eileen (nee Meagher); son James; grandson Michael and granddaughter Sara. He will also be remembered by sisters-in-law Peggy Standen and Anne Meagher and many other nieces, nephews and friends. We wish to give special recognition to Dave’s friend, Kirby Mar for the tremendous help and support he gave during Dave’s cancer treatments.

He was predeceased by his mother Janet, and father William; brother Alexander.

A Gathering will be held in the Reception Centre at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through

  2. Del Borggard :

Very sorry to read about Dave’s passing. He was a great guy and fun to be around. I never had the opportunity to do business with Dave but spent a lot of time with him at our monthly landman’s meetings at the Palliser and other functions over the years. He will be missed.

  3. Debbie Morrison :

I wanted to pass on my deepest sympathy to you Eileen and the family at this most difficult time. I worked with Dave at Amoco shortly after they purchased Dome Petroleum. He was one of the nicest kindest gentleman I knew always giving more than he received. However as much as he was a wonderful landman, he truly loved his family first and foremost. Thinking of you.

We are so sorry to hear of Dave’s passing, and are thinking of you, Eileen and Jim, at this time. We remember with fondness the friendship that goes all the way back to Haysboro days, and know that Rick was there waiting for his best friend on the other side. Much, much love to you both.

  5. Bernice and Bob McKenna :

Eileen, we are extremely sorry to hear of Dave’s passing. We knew him to always be a very nice person and know he will be missed. He was always friendly and a gentleman. We are sorry we will be unable to attend the gathering for him but an unavoidable commitment at the same time and day makes it impossible. Our deepest sympathy and condolences and our prayers are with you at this time.
