BACHELOR, Charlotte Irmgard

March 11, 1934 – Carteret, NJ
March 19, 2014 – Calgary, AB

On Wednesday, March 19, 2014, Charlotte Irmgard Bachelor died peacefully at Mayfair Care Center in Calgary, Alberta, Canada at the age of 80 years.

Charlotte was born in Carteret, N.J. on May 11, 1934 to Wilhelm and Lotte Kling. She graduated from Carteret High School in 1952 and then from the Latin American Institute in New York City. Always active in music and singing, Charlotte enjoyed accompanying her high school a cappela choir and participated in many school plays and piano performances. This love of music continued throughout her life as she enjoyed playing music with family and friends, often attending the many musical offerings throughout Calgary and area. Looking for a new challenge, Charlotte became a certified German-English translator in the mid-90s and was an officer in the Association Of Translators & Interpreters Of Alberta (ATIA).

Charlotte was an avid hiker, cross-country skier and folk-dancer. She will be remembered for her curiosity, love of learning, language and music as well as her wonderful sense of humour. She was completely devoted to her family, and was a fabulous hostess and perfect guest. Most of all, she was the best wife, sister, mother, grandmother and friend.

Charlotte is survived by Frank, her husband of 58 years; her sister Joyce; her three children, Karolyn, Rod and Suzanne; and 3 grandchildren, Emma, Kevin and Danielle. A private Celebration of Life ceremony will be held for Charlotte in June. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Charlotte Bachelor, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.

    Frank and family,
Charlotte will be missed. She made me feel very much at home the summer I lived in the extension to the house, and in later years made sure to invite me to bring the kids to jump in the leaves in the backyard every fall. That was always a delight. Sarah, the boys and I send you our sincere condolences.

  8. Otto & Paddy Eifert :

We remember well our visits to Calgary and meeting Frank & Charlotte in Banff for dinner
after so many years and their graciousness inviting us to their home. Charlotte & I grew
up in Carteret and we had been separated for many years until the Banff meeting. What a
gracious host Charlotte was and we remember well the Blackberry pie we were treated to
at their special pie shop. She was a blessing to know as a friend.

  9. On behalf of all the dancers at Calgary Folkdance Fridays, I would like to offer our condolences to Frank, and Frank and Charlotte’s children and grandchildren. One of our dancers just noticed the obituary. Charlotte danced with us for many years, and we had many wonderful parties at their house in Wildwood. When she could no longer dance with us, we came to the hospice she was residing in at the time and danced for her! Frank – do check in with us if you can – we’d love to see you again!

    Dear Karolyn, Rod, and Suzanne,
I couldn’t have had a nicer sister in law. The last few years were wrenching for all of you. As difficult as her passing was, be thankful that she’s finally at peace. I will be here for each of you as needed. I do love each of you, even though our contacts have been sparse.
    Love,
    Aunt Susan

    Dear Frank and your family,

We must deeply apologize for the delay to send our condolences to you.
We clearly remenber that we and our children met you and Charlotte on the top of Yellow Mountain at Jasper 18 years ago. Charlotte was so cheerful and charming that we and our children remember her brightened days even now.
