Bachelder, Daphne Irene

Daphne Irene Bachelder of Calgary passed away peacefully on April 6, 2009 after a brief bout of pneumonia. She was born in London, England to parents Beatrice and William Keena on January 25, 1926. Daphne finished her schooling then spent her young years during the War welding plane parts where she met and subsequently married her life long partner Elmer Raymond Bachelder in 1945. Daphne came to Canada as a war bride after an eight day long trip aboard the Aquatania, landing in Halifax in the spring of 1946. Daphne then boarded a train heading for her first home in Canada- Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, where she and Elmer welcomed their first child, Earl. Daphne and Elmer Finally took up residence in Calgary, where she worked for an insurance company until the birth of daughter Gainya. Daphne became a stay-at-home mother and had a third child, Kevin. Daphne was a wonderful wife and mother, making sure that her family always came first. She spent many hours driving to ball games, cheering on hockey teams, camping with friends, and supporting her family where ever needed. Daphne and Elmer spent their retirement years as snow birds, and enjoyed many wonderful trips to Phoenix. Daphne was predeceased by her parents and her only sister. She lost her oldest child to cancer in February 2004, and her husband in September of the same year also to cancer.   Daphne is survived by her daughter Gainya and husband Bert, and children Cory, Jesse (Tomi) and Holly; son Kevin and wife Cheryl, children Ashlee and Curtis, grandchildren Kim, Sean, and Morgan, and great-grandson Cody. She will also be sadly missed by her dear friend Carmen. Daphne will be remembered for being full of spunk and willing to try almost anything. She will be missed by her family and all who knew her. Per her request, there will be no formal service, and she will be laid to rest along with her husband and son. In living memory of Daphne Bachelder, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Eastside Memorial Chapel, 5388 MEMORIAL DRIVE N.E.
