ANSELMO, Minerva Margaret

October 26, 1924 – Major, SK
July 25, 2013 – Calgary, AB

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Minerva.

She was born in Major, Saskatchewan; second youngest of 10 siblings. She met Tony at the Regina Prairie Flying School where he trained as a wireless operator in RCAF bombers during WWII. Minerva taxied those bombers into hangers where she worked on them as a grease monkey. Minerva and Tony were married for 66 years and lived in Vancouver where they had three children before moving to Calgary in 1965. Minerva was involved in many charities over the years. One of her favourite charities was knitting blankets for Rotary to be distributed to people in need. Minerva knitted hundreds of beautiful blankets over the many years. Minerva loved her family dearly and nothing was more important to her. She cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and they loved being with her. Minerva was gracious and kind and had a wonderful sense of humour. She will be missed but we will hold wonderful memories of her in our hearts and speak of her often.

Minerva is survived by her children and their spouses, Garry and Irma Anselmo of Vancouver, Dale LeBis of Calgary and Toni and Paul Trudel of Calgary; five grandchildren and their spouses, Janelle, David (Lisa), Adrien (Ana), Jeffrey and Lee; two great-granddaughters Andrea and Adriana and her sister Myra Moorman. She was predeceased by her husband Tony Anselmo on November 10, 2009.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael Catholic Community Church (800 – 85 Street S.W.) on Thursday, August 1, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through Our most sincere thanks to Dr. Hall for his considerable care and kindness over the many years, as well as the care and kindness of Dr. Hogan, Cecile and the staff of Wentworth Manor.

In living memory of Minerva Anselmo, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.

Condolence Messages

  1. Gail Millett :

Dear Dale and family. It was with a heavy heart that I read of your mother’s passing. Although our paths only crossed for a few years at The Wentworth when she and my mother became friends; we were always happy to share some time with Minerva. She had such a kind heart and gentle way about her. She spoke so fondly of her husband. I think that is what she and my mom missed so much in their later years. I believe she is at peace now; and in the months to come you will be able to acknowledge this as your lives continue on with Minerva in your hearts. We were all blessed to have known Minerva. Your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Sincerely Gail Millett (daughter of the late Joyce Miller)

  6. The Emond Family :

    Toni, Paul, Jeff & Lee:

We were so sorry to hear of Minera’s passing. She was lovely, elegant, generous and, a bit, irreverent! She was so very proud of her family and loved to meet their friends. We remembered a BBQ when Toni jokingly continually referred to Steve as “Kevin” (an inside joke). Evenually, Minera whispered to Toni “Dear, his name is Steve – you should know that as he is your guest”! 🙂 That was Minera; the consummate hostess – always wanting to be sure that guests were made to feel special.

We will keep Minerva and Tony in our prayers.

Maureen, Steve, Matthew, Patrick, Caitlin & Jennifer Emond

  10. Jack MacDonald :

Our thoughts are with the Anselmo family. Minerva was a wonderful lady. As a radio/TV sports guy I got to know Tony through his McMahon Stadium efforts and later Minerva when we met at social functions particularly Calgary Booster Club events. In the early 90’s Lisa was pregnant and when our son arrived Minerva presented us with one of the coveted knitted blankets. We cherish the blanket and memory to this day. She was a kind, generous, intelligent woman who emitted a real warmth and sparkle….a truly special person to all who crossed her path.
