  2. I am still in shock as I am sure so is his family. Garry was a fun loving man with a great sense of humor and a whit and charm so lacking today, he was also old school, I think that is what I respected most about him. Working with him the last few years I got to know a man that never asked for more than he gave. He was so looking forward to retirement, sadly that was cut short. Someone had other plans for him, Wherever you are Garry I raise my glass to you and to you Jamie and all of the family I give my deepest condolences. My heart breaks for you but know that he will always be with you.

  11. Garry, we will always miss you. We had met several times during the time I had the privilege of bringing up your daughter Jamie, in her early teen age years, when I was in a engagement relationship with her mother Debbie.
I wrote a poem in 1975 to a best friend of mine, that passed away. I would like to pass it on, to all the ones that loved you.

I had the oportunity to work with Garry for 2 years as his assistant manager. He was patient and kind as had a great hart. He was a good coach and mentor to me and many more Safeway managers. I was fishing with my family on Sunday and we saw an eagle on top of one of the trees around the lake. For a second there i remembered how much Garry would had enjoy to see that. I did not know he had passed the day before. Our deepest condolences to Jamie and family. He will be missed.

  28. Wendy, thank you so much for your condolences. I was very touched to see your entry and to know that people we haven’t seen (in likely 45 years) share in our grief. We are heart broken from Garry’s sudden passing. He was everything that people’s comments indicate, he was fun and a very caring man. He had just retired and had a wonderful future to look forward to. For all of us, his memory will live on forever. He loved us all while he was here and we will remember his love and his caring ways with a smile. I felt proud and privileged to have him as my brother.

  34. I think the measure of a man is how he is remembered, and I mean how long he is remembered. I worked with/for Garry 30 years ago. He knew and I knew I wanted something different. Despite the fact I made it to lead, he helped encourage my education and I had a very great 30 year career as a social worker, much from his encouragement of a young dude to seek out things that matter to each of us. Why should I remember someone from so long ago? Simply because he was a decent wonderful man. My thoughts with the lucky groups, family and friends who had him with them much more longer than I did…his life was meaningful on so many levels….
