ANDRIUK, Joyce Ann (nee Nestor)

September 30, 1934 – Edmonton, Alberta
February 13, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta

The family of Joyce Andriuk sadly announces her passing at the age of 82, peacefully in her sleep. She has joined the love of her life, John, who predeceased her in 2014.

An only child, Joyce was born in Edmonton, Alberta, and grew up in Edmonton and Vancouver. She attended Victoria Composite High School in Edmonton, where she first met John Andriuk. Mom loved to tell the story of how a teacup reader told her she had already met than man she would marry, and how she thought of all the boys she knew in high school, and was not impressed. Joyce studied nursing at the University of Alberta, Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in September, 1956. She loved living in residence with her many “sisters,” and was thrilled to attend the sixtieth reunion last September.

Mom lived in Hawaii for two years, working as a nurse in Honolulu. She had wonderful memories of Hawaii, and travelled there as often as was possible. She returned to Edmonton, where she once again met up with John, and this time was impressed enough to marry him on May 16, 1959. Joyce and John moved to Calgary, finally building a house in University Heights, where they both lived out their days. Mom loved to travel, to shop and to read mystery novels. She was devoted to John, caring for him during his long illness.

She was the best of mothers and grandmothers, and will be deeply missed. Joyce is survived by her daughter and sons-in-law, Lonny and Lorne Olsen, and Lorraine Andriuk and Allen Veitch; her daughter-in-law, Deborah Andriuk; her seven grandchildren, Killian, Natalie, Martin, Greg, Tom, Haley and John. She was predeceased by her husband John and her son Brian in 2005.

A memorial reception will be held at a later date. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Joyce Andriuk, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB Telephone: 403-256-9575.

Condolence Messages

  1. Zackary Andriuk :

I was saddened to hear of Aunt Joyce’s passing. She had one of the most uplifting hello’s when the family got together. It was very welcoming. Family gatherings just wont be the same without her effervescent personality. Its a comfort that she left her mortal life peacefully, in her own home and on her own terms.

  6. Lorraine Andriuk :

Both Allen and I feel blessed that we were able to live with mom during the past few years. She learned to love visits to Costco and also to spend time watching the musical talent show “The Voice”. She always had a favorite singer and cheered heartily for her contestant. She grew to love and be loved by our Newfoundland dog Brianna. Brianna had a habit of sitting on her feet and mom enjoyed this enormously. We all loved mom dearly and were not ready for her to go! It is comforting to know she has joined loved ones who have passed before her. Love Lori and Allen and Brianna and Princess (the cat).

My sincerest condolences to all of the Andriuk family. Your mom had a wonderful smile and the picture you chose shows it beautifully. She’s with John now, watching over you all. I have great memories of the all the neighborhood gatherings. With some special memories, one in particular, a conversation with your mom enjoying her amazing corn beef sandwich loaf which I still make today. Know your mom impacted each and everyone of us in a special way. My heart felt condolences to you all.
    Sincerely, Karen Allbright
