ANDERSON, Philip (Phil) Sidney

January 1, 1935 – Kinosota, MB
October 10, 2013 – Calgary, AB

Philip Sidney Anderson, beloved husband of Judith Marion Anderson of Calgary, passed away peacefully with all but one member of his family present on the eleventh hour of the morning light Thursday, October 10, 2013 at the age of 78 years.

Phil found his calling as a Carpenter with NuWest for several years and then found placement in construction at the Calgary Zoo and was also privileged to rebuild the Seventh Day Adventist School at which his children attended when they were young before fire took to it. He then went on to his own venture with 5A’s Carpentry and then retired. During his retirement he became bored and took on delivering the Calgary Sun for many more years in addition to delivering flowers throughout the city of Calgary until 2009.

He took up guitar when he was 15 years of age. Playing his music was his favourite pass time and blessed every one around him, friends, family, even entertaining those at the Bowness Legion and senior homes in the Bowness area. He could play the songs of his favourite entertainers most accurately and songs that touched his heart that quite a few of us wish we had such talent.

No one but those closest and dearest to him knew of the battle he was facing with colon cancer which a successful operation removed in the spring of 2010. However, in the tail end of September 2013 his health was proving problematic. It was in the final 3 weeks that he was diagnosed with Lymphoma which took over his body quite rapidly.

Besides his loving wife of fifty-four years, Phil is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Anderson; two sons, Phil Anderson Jr. and Paul Anderson with his spouse Donna Weed; and five grandchildren Andrew Stephen, Darlene Adala Rose, Honey-Marie, Robert Sidney and Matillda Angelique Grace. He is also survived by two sisters Doris McKinnon and Myrtle Anderson and numerous nieces and nephews. Phil was predeceased by his parents Robert and Olive Anderson; six brothers Frank, Ernie, Peter, Robert, John and William; three sisters Elizabeth, Matilda and Stella.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Sunday, November 3, 2013 from Noon to 4:00 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Monday, November 4, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made in support of Rebecca’s ride in the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer

  5. Annie VanderLeek :

Phil was one of those clients that just found a place in my heart. He was funny, kind and loving towards his family and always made decisions putting them first. His love and care and concern that he showed touched my heart and I will never forget him. He was kind enough to arrange the music for my church’s stampede breakfast which was a wonderful addition. I am sorry for the families loss but am so happy they had such a wonderful example of love. I will not forget him.
