November 30, 1931 – July 1, 2010

Roy Amstutz, beloved husband of Yolanda of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2010 at the age of 78 years of complications following a stroke.

Roy was born in Murten, Switzerland and following a brief stint in the Merchant Marines; he immigrated to Canada in 1950 and began a career as a draftsman. He honed his craft in the oil patch and eventually retired from Pan Canadian Petroleum in 1992 after many years as a geological technologist. In his retirement years, Roy developed a passion for the game of golf which occupied his summers and gave him the opportunity to travel and enjoy his favourite sport. He also enjoyed watching professional wrestling and baking traditional Swiss breads for his family.

Roy is survived by his wife of forty nine years Yolanda, his son Brian (Cheryl), daughter Linda Fitzstevens (Mel), his grandchildren Megan, Abby and Marlee, and his sister Erna. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and other family members. Roy was predeceased by his brothers Ray and Ernst and sister Elizabeth.

A Gathering will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Wednesday, July 07, 2010 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Forward condolences through If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 200, 119 – 14th Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 1Z6 Telephone: (403) 264-5549, Special thanks to the staff at the Dr. Vernon Fanning Center and Unit 36 at the Foothills Medical Center for the excellent care provided to Roy during his illness.
