Maria Amoruso, of Calgary, passed away on Monday, April 23, 2012 at the age of 80 years.
Maria was born on March 18, 1932 in Staletti, Italy. She married Gregorio Amoruso on January 14, 1956 in Italy then immigrated to Canada in November 1956 to join her husband. She spent the majority of her life in Canada as a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. Maria was an avid gardener, cook, baker and loved to travel. Maria’s greatest love was her family.
Maria is survived by her children, Rocco, Joe (Nancy) Amoruso, and Maria (Ed) West; grandchildren, Michael, Gemma, Matteo and Carina; her sister Pina (Agostino) Nocita; and her brother Antonio (Antonietta) Gentile, all of Calgary. She is also survived by four brothers-in-law and five sisters-in-law, Salvatore (Giovanna) Amoruso of Italy, Giovanni (Vincenzina) Amoruso of Calgary, Concetta (Franco) Laporta of Calgary, Maria Amoruso of Italy, and Angela (Joseph) Cortese of California; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Maria was predeceased by her husband Gregorio; her parents Giuseppe Gentile and Antonia Sestito; her brother-in-law Anunziato Amoruso; and two sisters-in-law Gesa Amoruso and Teresa Corasiniti; and nephew Rocco Amoruso.
Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Sunday, April 29, 2012 at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Catholic Church (Corner of 4th Street and Northmount Drive N.W.) on Monday, April 30, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Mausoleum.
