ALTON, Edward (Ed)

July 22, 1928 – Melfort, Saskatchewan
December 30, 2014 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that the family of Ed Alton announces his passing on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at the age of 86 years.

Ed will be lovingly remembered by his wife Peggy of thirty-four years and her children, Teresa (Mike) Fabi, Brian Juke, Harry Juke and many grandchildren, whom he happily assumed the role of father and grandfather. He will also be fondly remembered and missed by his sisters-in-law, Laura and Sharon; nieces and nephews, Gloria (Casper), Beryle, Robert (Marilyn), Gary, Dale (Pam) and Paul. Ed was predeceased by all of his nine siblings and his first wife Mary.

Ed was born and raised on a farm near Melfort SK. After leaving the farm at the age of 17 he began his career working for the CNR. He lived and worked in San Francisco and finished his career working as a building and maintenance man for Pioneer Property Management. Ed loved to travel and spent time in Costa Rica and enjoyed many winters in Arizona with Peggy. Ed was a kind and gentle man and will be remembered for always offering a helping hand. He loved playing the fiddle, wood carving, camping, was an avid fan of the Calgary Flames and spoke four languages. He also enjoyed square dancing and he and Peggy were proud members of the Roses and Thorns square dancing club. A highlight of their life was square dancing in the opening ceremonies at the 88 Winter Olympics.

Funeral Liturgy to celebrate Ed’s life will be held at St. Michael Catholic Community Church (800 – 85 Street S.W.) on Friday, January 9, 2015 at 1:00p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, c/o Tom Baker Cancer Centre, 1331 – 29 Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 4N2 Telephone: 1 (866) 412-4222.
