I have known Doug for almost thirty years since first moving to Calgary from Ottawa. He helped ease the transition to life in Calgary, and was one of the finest people I have ever met. I remember particularly helping Doug assemble a BBQ, it took us close to 5 hours, but was a darn fine bbq when we were finished. My sincere condolences to Doug’s family.

  19. Rebecca Maxwell and Graeme Benn :

It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of my dear friend Doug Adamson this week.

Living in Calgary in the early 80’s Doug was one of my closest friends and we had many great times together. He was kind, generous and always available to talk, share a story and have a few laughs.

Moving from Ottawa to Calgary I met Doug at the Calgary tennis club where we all knew him to be a “closet pro”.

Along with a group of friends we had many great times together over the nearly 8 yrs that I lived in Calgary.

What I loved about Doug was his wonderful love of life, his generosity and his positive outlook.

My sincere and deepest condolences to Carol, Ashley and the rest of Doug’s family. He will be dearly missed by all. Our thoughts are with you…

    Sincerely,

    Rebecca and Graeme Benn

  20. To Sally and Doug’s family,
I am so very sorry to hear of the Doug’s sudden and tragic death. It is impossible to imagine the pain and sense of loss that you are left with in losing your brother, husband and father.
As a long ago friend in Ottawa, we spent many [sometimes very late!] nights in wonderful social gatherings with Doug at the table or in the kitchen. Those and simliar memories of a very good friend will live on in the circle of friends with whom Doug shared bits and pieces of his life. May you find comfort over the course of time with your memories of Doug. I will be with you in spirit on Thursday. Zita

  21. Heather Lucianovich (Endre) :

I met Doug when I started working for Aetna in 1988. I worked in the small case market which was located on the same floor as Ted Smith’s group, prior to the formation of Woodman & Associates. Doug’s office was right across from my cubicle. That was the beginning of our working relationship and friendship.

Doug was present and shared in some of my “key” life moments. My husband and I were having dinner with Doug and Carol at their home, when we got the news that we closed on our first home. And Doug visited me in the hospital when my son was born.

Doug was a serious group producer and I worked closely with him on his cases throughout the years. When I left the industry, we remained in touch. I last saw him over coffee in March and last talked to him in May.

Doug was an amazing and unique person. His work ethics were the highest I’ve ever come across; he always placed the interests of his clients first. He was genuine and positive – I never heard him speak ill of anyone, ever. He worked hard and was successful, but he role modeled to the rest of us how important it was to balance out family, friends, community and participating in the joys of life. He had the recipe right on how to live life. If I could describe him in one word it would be gracious.

He was such a joy to know and I’m going to miss my friend. I am very sorry for your loss and that you have to go through the grief process. I know from my own experience that it can be long and exhausting. I wish you comfort and peace through you journey.

    Sincerely.. Heather.
